My honest opinion is that the Revo is just to small for muskys, it is plenty strong but the line capacity is nowhere near enough IMHO. Later this year Abu will be coming out with Revo's in "5" and "6" sizes which will be perfect for musky.

Revos arn't built for muskie lures. The Curados are a good casting reel for glides and such but not so good for the big double 10 blades. I also don't think I would troll with a Curado.

If you get a revo, I would suggest the saltwater version. I am sure that they would hold up just fine.
Otherwise, I have a curado and it works great too. I don't really think you can go wrong with either. The curado is a proven musky reel and I haven't heard much about the revo inshore/saltwater. I think the revo is geared 7.1:1 while the curado is 6.3:1.

tight lines,

Dan

curado was the only reel left standing in my boat last year, I'd highly recommend it

offshore revo comes with both handles so you can select the smaller one that the fresh water revos come with or the power handle. it also holds more line than the fresh water revos.......not much......but some more. garcia reels are the only ones that can handle what i put them through. shimano reels dont hold up for me.....and they have way too many parts if you maintain them yourselves. check the schematics on both websites and this is clearly visible.

The main gear on a CURADO 300 is some of the biggest gears I have seen in a reel, about 30-40% bigger then a revo gear. TRY to reel a Double 10 blade bait with a revo and will see for your self.

Adding to what PIKEMASTER posted, the main gear of the Curado 300DSV, is larger than the main gear in the Calcutta 400TE. In fact, The Curado 300DSV, has the largest main gear of any Shimano "C" series reels.

I've had bad abus and bad Shimanos...but can't say anything bad about the revo or curado. The curados are actually pretty simple inside. The gears are huge. The revos is a little short on line capacity. Hopefully they make a bigger one, because I have 3 STX's for bass and like them more than anything.

I've been using Curado's for muskies since 1995, and no failures. I've been told by "reel experts" that the Curado's wouldn't take the abuse of mukie lures/fishing. So far the expert's have been wrong!

Have fun!

I tried the Curado 300 last year and really didn't like it. The concept was right, but Shimano used the wrong gear ratio, and it does pull hard with lures with any size. Yeah you can pull 10's with it, but the handle turns much harder than if it had a lower gear ratio. I highly recommend trying a Shimano Citica 200 in the 5:1 gear ratio if you want to try a lighter reel. It absolutely pulls lures through the water like a champ. I caught several muskies with mine last year and it was awesome. Using "smaller" lures the musky sized Jointed X-Raps I had to keep checking to see if the lure was still on my line because I couldn't even feel it on there during the retrieve it did so well!

I just picked up a Curado 300DSV, and I'll say this: It's not for hard pulling baits. That's not why I bought it. It is geared fast to take up slack line fast, such as in a jerk bait application, or for ripping jigs and soft plastics. I'm going to use it as a topwater reel, and also for jigging. I'll try some other stuff and see how it goes, but I don't expect for it to be a do all reel. As far as the power of the reel goes, I've seen a lot of Larry Dahlberg's Hunt for Big Fish episodes where he caught some big, ugly, hard fighting fish on the Curado. I was impressed. Spoke with Larry at our chapter banquet, and he spoke highly of it. Larry's endorsement goes a long way for me, since he is one of the most well traveled fishermen in the world, and he has access to the best equipment Shimano has to offer. He wouldn't use a reel that wasn't up to the task when he ventures into some of the most remote places in the world, chasing fish that could eat a musky...Period.

I just watched the video for the Curado on Shimano's site, and highly recommend you guys checking it out. The Golden Dorado they're catching fight harder than any musky alive, and they were all caught on the Curado 300DSV. I was sold already, but this is exactly why I bought mine.

The Curado punches way above its weight and is a fantasic piece of engineering, it wont let you down.

I think the 300 dsv is a great reel but I would use it for top water or jerk baits, not trolling. I can also drive a nail with a saw, but it ain't much fun.

In fishing muskies,it's not the fish that tests the durability of the reel,it's the baits we use. Kdawg

You guys will very happy with this reel! I have 2 300's, and can't beleive what a "Power house" these low profile gems are:). I watched Larry Dalhberg like I'm sure alot of you others have (Hunt For Big Fish"), but to use the reel myself was very impressive. Like other guys have mentioned above, I wouldn't use them for DC10's, even though I think the reel could handle it, the question is can you? LOL! Anyway, hope you boys enjoy your new toys.
