Location: WI | Here are a few I just put together. Starting on a double jointed batch tomorrow. I am still hoping to get a video of these guys real soon. I have about a week left before I have to put the tool belt on and start swinging the hammer again.

| How do you cut the joint? I tried a v shaped router bit but the wood kicked out and nearly took my finger off.

Jason,
Don't use a router! I'll tell you what works really easy is a coping saw. If you aren't familiar with one they are shaped like the letter "C" with a handle coming off the bottom of them. Go to any hardware store and you can buy one for less than 10 dollars. Mark on the wood where you want the cuts, put the wood in a vise or clamp and start cutting. Once you have the cut take some sand paper and smooth things out, you can make it look perfect in just a few minutes. For the other side of the joint that's beveled I use my belt sander but I'm sure you could use the coping saw for this also.

Jason, I use a band saw for cutting the V for the joints. I made myself a jig that runs along the fence of the bandsaw so every joint is the same. I had to shim the opposite side because if I did'nt my V cut would not meet the other.
The top-coat I use is EX-74. It is an industrial, UV resistant product made by Enviromental Technologies. |
