I am planning to replace a pair of prescription sunglasses. What do you recommend? I had a pair I got at Walmart that worked ok but I have had some problems seeing fish in the water. I am wondering if too much light may be getting in from the sides.

Jeff, I've been using presription sunglasses for 15 years. I've got a local lady that does them for me. The lenses generally run $110-120 for single vision with polarization on them, and then an extra $15-20 if memory serves me right for scratch resistant. I just supply her the frames if she doesn't have some that would fit my purpose. Insure you get some type of wrap around sunglasses that can covers the sides of your eyes. This combined with the polarization can make for great success seeing muskies! Just my 2 cents worth. Donnie

Posts: 134 | I use prescription sunglasses as well. I like glass lenses better than plastic, a little heavier but much more scratch resistant and polarized lenses. For side shields I use the plastic ones they put on safety glasses for welders, some slide on the temples, but the good ones clip on very tite and wrap around for the best protection. Joe W

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | h30 makes a rx insert for their sport series glasses. you still have the versitility of interchangable lenses. i have used em the past 3-4 seasons now and love em! http://www.h3opolarized.com Edited by muskihntr 3/10/2008 9:25 AM

Posts: 552 Location: deephaven mn | most of you major sun/fishing glasses manufactures have certain frames that will except perscription lenses. these would be the nice wrap arounds that will serve you best. there are however some problems when doing wrap arounds.high perscriptions and high astigmatism will cause problems. i know i have tried.the side sheild thing is a good alternative.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I use FitOvers, they have side and top shields and save a lot of wear on my 'script glasses. I don't have to worry about my good glasses flying off in the wind. m

As Kap mentioned, just about all the major manufacturers offer at least a portion of their product line that can be ordered with prescription lenses. I have a pair from Costa Del Mar with amber lenses and last season I got a pair from Solar Bat with green lenses. Start checking the websites and go from there. It's best if you can find a place that has glasses for you to try on - finding frames that properly fit your face is really, really important.

Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I'm looking for a pair right now...and they are not cheap. One word of advice I'd give is to look online. I found some maui jims on line for $100 less than the eye dr asks.

Haber Vision has a number of their frame styles available with prescription lenses. it's the same guy that started Bolle; good quality stuff, reasonable rates. http://www.habervision.com/Products.aspx?category=Eyewear&subcatego...
