Maybe it depends on your physical conditions, but longer rods generally make things much easier on people than short rods do. I know I fatigue much less quickly using an 8 foot rod versus a 6'6" rod. With the long rod, you don't have to use force to snap the bait to get good cast length. With light baits, just let the rod load and it will do the work. With heavy baits, just lobbing usually gets the baits out there.

Do some searches on rod length to give you a better idea. Nearly EVERYONE has gone to 8 foot and longer rods now. There are other benefits (deep/wide figure 8's), but lowered casting and fishing fatigue is one of them.

Longer rods are preferred in my opinion. 7’6” use to be the longest you could get, and they made life much easier than rods shorter than 7’. Now you can get very long rods from the mfg. without having to special order them from a custom shop. I know Lamiglass is suppose to come out with a 9’ glass rod that is very light (comparable to graphite). It’s a very nice rod as I threw the proto type last year. They also have an 8’6” that is very nice.

The reason I like longer rods is they take a lot of work out of it. Just the opposite of what you are thinking. They make casting larger baits a lot less work, and they also make it easier to work your baits. However, if your rod/reel set-up isn’t balanced all too well you may have issues with hand/wrist/forearm fatigue. I know Bass Pro Shops sells slip on weighting systems to help balance the rods out. I’ve used them and it can make a huge difference with fatigue.

If your issues are your wrist/arm going numb or getting very painfull perhaps it is the way you are holding your rod. If you are palming the reel that could be the issue. I was having issues with my wrist. Last year I switched my grip to the fore grip of the rod and it helped immensely with my wrist issues. I still palm the reel depending on what I am throwing, but using the fore grip is what I am trying to go to.
