| Thanks for the update Jeff, any chance we can come down and transport them back ourselves somehow like has been done in the past on other lakes with this problem? Let me put in a call and see if we can work this through the IMA???

Location: oswego, il | Yes, perhaps the IMA can help with the gas situation. Part of the IMA's function is to allocate funds for these types of issues with funds donated by all of the illinois muskie clubs. Is the pool wadeable? This is how they recover fish from the shabbona spillway, waders and landing nets. |

| The pool where they wind up is deep enough and large enough that wading is not an option. We did suggest that and if we could pump some of the water out of the pool then it woul dbe an option, however it has been said that this pool creates necessary back pressure for the spillway and cannot be pumped. |

| We had a similar situation on Pierce Lake with many fish being stuck in the pool below the dam. The water ended up going down to a point where there was no fresh water running over the spillway and the warmer temps were killing fish rapidly. We ended up using 6" drain tile, similar to what is used around house foundations, as a siphon hose to bring water over the spillway into the pool until we could shock up the fish and put them back into the lake above. I think we had 4-6 pieces supplying water to the spillway. You could stand above the pool and see the fish stacked up right at the points where the fresh water would enter the pool...it worked. We did lose a few fish after that day but not many. We had a Flatlander work day to have manpower to net the fish, measure them and put them into horse water tanks and transport them to the lake for release. This was in co-operation with the IL DNR. They supplied the shock boat and one person to run it (Al Pulley, the best thing to happen to Pierce Lake and the Flatlanders) and we did everything else. It also became an educational day for the kids to learn the difference in fish species. Look to the parks people for a name to contact now that Al is gone and they should be able to put you in contact with someone with enough intelegence to volunteer with your group. I agree that the Illini Musky Alliance (IMA) would be a great help for this.

Location: Green Bay, WI | You need to enlist the help of your local MI chapter(s), and then have one of their officers contact me directly to discuss assistance from the International organization. We don't have a pile of money available, but I do believe we have some for serious issues such as this. I will need to contact the rest of the Executive Committee, but that only takes 1-2 days now that things have changed in how the organization is run. (In fact, this is *exactly* why so many forward-thinking members pushed for reorganization.)
In any respect, please get the local MI chapters involved, and please involve the local conservation biologists to the degree possible. I understand your points about funding and lack of man-power hours; but these folks have the training to move the fish safely and efficiently; thus I believe that any effort should be coordinated through them--at least to give them the option to decline to assist you.
But I will do my best to see that MI helps this effort as much as possible. My phone number is on the MI webpage, and it's on the Titletown MI chapter page...have somebody call me ASAP, or certainly they could email me with a contact number and I will call them.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Great to hear! I will stand by to facilitate any assistance possible from MI International...in fact if I wasn't laid-up after bilateral knee replacement surgery, I'd head down there to help you guys out. But at least I can provide a conduit to MI for your efforts.

| 53 happy muskies and a couple dozen saugeye were returned to the lake last Thursday.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | GREAT !!!!! Do you think you got them all ???? Did the nets at the spillway fail or was it to much for them to handle ??? If new nets are needed someone should start a fund for new nets so this will not happen anymore. THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HELP OUT. |

| Richard, like Pierce and a few other lakes in the state, Evergreen does not have a spillway barrier. We have seen how many fish are rescued below that dam. Its too bad they wont allow a barrier net, because that lake would be A LOT better if they did.

Location: N.FIB | It`s hard to beleive that they will spend alot of money stocking but not put up a net,how much money was spent on the project at pierce,3 different strains of muskies are now swimming in the rock river because of the high water this year. |

My understanding is they can't put a fish barrier in the lake. There is a good reason but I forgot why. I thought there was a barrier below so they could not get out of the pool in the spillway? |

| Todd, the reasoning for such a quick rescue below the dam was because of the lack of water going over and the high water temps. I guess they don't want a spillway barrier because they are afraid it can effect the dam. ps. Blufloyd is my hero
