So while I was sitting around watching TV this morning, I got to thinking about how everyone is always talking about how there are no big fish in WI and everyone catches their biggest fish in MN or Canada. So where have you actually been when you have caught your biggest fish. Mine of course was in Minnesota (on Mille Lacs), but I only get to fish WI and Canada for one week a piece per year. So lets hear it.

I voted Wisconsin. BUUTTT, my biggest so far after two years of fishing muskies hard is a 46, not a huge 54 or anything like some MN guys have. Also, I have only fished WI for muskies (except Canada once when I was much younger), so even if I had a 25 incher, WI would still be my "big fish state."

I agree that there are MORE big fish in other states, but I don't agree with there being NO big fish in WI. I have seen a couple real dandies in only two years, and just look at Gelb's fish...

My biggest was caught on a small southwestern Wisconsin lake. While it was only 44 inches it is my largest. I have only fished Wisconsin with most of it in the southwestern portion of the state with a couple trips "up north" each summer. I hope to broaden my horizons and try some new water this year.

I do not have a boat, but put a lot of devoted effort into my first "full year" musky fishing last year. I learned first hand that Illinois has a very healthy musky resource. My longest came from Lake Shelbyville, caught last October, and is also my first figure 8 fish. I caught it during a tournament and it measured 47.5 inches.

As luck would have it I caught my first "sucker" musky a month later in Indiana and I thought I had the Shelbyville fish beat easily. It was 46 and very girthy. My untrained eye thought it might even be a fiddy!

So the plan this year is to double my efforts and get that first 4 footer. I'll fish lots of water in lots of states, and with determination and some luck, I will succeed!

100% of my biggest fish are caught somewhere in the mouth! Sorry, couldn't help it. My biggest last year was from Georgian Bay.

Guys, no need to state that a fish is "only" 44" or 46" as your personal best. Everyone's opportunities to chase Green Fish can be very different. It almost sounded like a couple posts were apologizing/rationalizing why fish were/are a certain size. I was talking with several people this weekend at the Ohio Muskie Show who catch 45", 25- 30lb fish from some of the reservoirs in that state. Not 55's but awesome fish nonetheless. Keep your passion for the sport and the fish and you'll raise the bar every season. Of course we want to catch the fish that will eat a 36", but not much wrong with a 3' fish from freshwater!Ok, off the Pulpit. Steve
