Do you add weight when burning over the standard Cowgirl,Spanky, etc? And what weight keeps them from popping out?

You dont have to weight them just keep your rod tip in the water.
I'm burning cgs with a 16n trinidad and I have no problems.

I do know a few guys who put them on down riggers for trolling but that is more for putting the bucktails at desired depths vs keeping them from blowing out.

Stealth Tackle makes a great keel weight for guys that want to troll who don't have down riggers. We carry them in 1 and 2 oz. sizes.

They also make nice weighted leaders if you are burning at mach speeds and blowing out on retrieves. 3 weight options available.

I prefer to weight them and keep my rod tip above the water...this way I am in a better position for a hookset. They also cast much better with a little extra weight. I use lead solder and just wrap it around the weight underneath the flash. This allows me to adjust the amount and easily remove the weight when necessary.

exactly. 1oz is a good weight to start with, switch it up from there depending on how it works. i have a hard time believing guys are really burning dub 10s and using their rods to keep them from blowing out without enduring some serious pain, takes twice as much energy to fish like that and you'll lose fish.
