Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Looking for a confidence bait

Message Subject: Looking for a confidence bait

Subject: Looking for a confidence bait

After reading all winter long and learning as much as I could, I know I should have a confidence bait. Something to start the day with, or turn to when things are not going well. Problem is I never caught a Muskie on an artificial lure before, so I have no confidence!...lol.

What is your confidence bait?.

0-32, determined to finally hook Mr. Big and break the streak!

Thanks;

BigO

My confidence baits are, for bucktails. orange blade/black hair or green blade/black hair. as far as jerk baits, and minnow baits its a toss up.
But I think the best Thing you can do is find what types of baitfish are in the lakes your fishing and go from there, and also dont be afraid to try somthing totally out in left field, you never know you might end up with your own special confidence bait.

Well,

My confidence lure would have to be a black fury Mepps #5. I usually go through two or three of these a season do to punishment from the strikes! I don't think that it matters all that much which lure is your "go to" lure when it comes to muskie fishing. It may not even be the lure that you catch your first one on (although I think that it will be at least for a while!!). What will help you discover your confidence lure will be time on the water.

Good luck this season!

Big O, My confidence baits switch with the seasons.

Early spring; 6" minnow baits (jakes and shallow raiders)

Summer; TopRaider and Poes Awaker

Fall; 9' Grandma's and 10" Jakes

Try these and throw some of your own choices in and sooner or later you will develop your own go to list.

You need to build up your own confidence arsenal. Find a few baits that are easy to work, fit the depths and colors that seem to match the waters you are on....then beat the PISS out of them. If after a few days of no luck, then try something new. After a few successes you'll find few things that work well for you, and you'll find that the hundreds of other lures that you bought along the way never seem to get wet anymore. Just takes time, everyone has their own confidence lures, you need to find your most lethal package too!!!

BigO, I gave you the color the other night. Find baits in that color. I would goto bass pro and yell SUPERMAN! and see where it leads you.

BigO,

The best advice - especially when starting out - gain confidence in at least one bait in each bait category. The more versatile you are on the water, the more fish you are going to catch. Pick one in each category and tell yourself you are going to master that bait. You'll be very glad you did.

I'll show you what I mean when we hit the water together.

I also feel that you should pick a bait in each category, I have gain a bunch of confidence in marabou tails..give me a green and black hair with a fire tiger blade and I will be happy. What I like about the "boo" tails is how much more action you can get by pumping the rod tip to make the hair puff up, just something I like. FOr shallow twich bait I dont thing you can beat a baby or shallow raider..perch or firetiger.

My confidence bait that lasted about the first seven years was a perch color suick since of course I caught my first green slime on that bait many moons ago.
