I have a Plueger Trion 66 and the line guide stopped working when I cast, so I called customer service to see if I can have some help. The reel is only 9 months old and I would think that it would be taken care of by Pflueger (I know Abu Garcia fixes reels, no questions asked) So I called them and I need a reciept to verify it is under one year old. Well crap I can't find a reciept. She preceded to tell me if I wanted it fixed and could not produce a sales reciept it would cost at the minimum 29.99 dollars. Even if I had a reciept and it was under warranty it would cost me 9.99 for service charge. Her name was Valerie, she was actually pretty sounding just didn't like how there policy worked. I then told her that I would never buy Pflueger again and I also told her about Abu Garcia and there wonderful return policy. Then I told her bye. Sorry just had to ramble and vent. Thanks.

That is a little surprising about the customer service. On the up side, I think you might be able to fix the reel yourself. I think there is a little pin that rides in the work gear to make the level wind go back and forth. I'm guessing you could order a new pin from Pflueger and it shouldn't be too terribly hard to replace it. Maybe you could even have one of techs there tell you how to do it.

Shawn,
I agree with Curleytail. You could probably fix that thing yourself. It may be the worm gear or pawl. Most people say if you replace one you should replace the other. I had a Pete Maina series reel from Bass Pro that developed a similar problem. When I took it apart I found that the big plastic gear that transfers the rotation from the spool to the worm gear had blown apart. There were little plastic gear teeth all over the place. I ordered a new gear and replaced the worm gear and pawl for good measure. The reel now works fine. I ordered the parts through Outdoor World Rod and Reel Repair. They are very helpful, pricing is good and shipment is pretty quick. I'll bet they have parts for your reel too. I doubt that parts for this repair would cost $10.

WV, like you I had the line guide stop working on me two falls ago on a Trion 56. The place where we got it sent in for the part, like curleytail said I believe it's just a little "pin" in there. I believe we got it done for free or very little charge. Wish you well in getting the reel fixed. If you can't, and are interested in selling it, let me know.
Thanks, Jake

That was my problem, be sure you are VERY specific in what you need. They will get it for you. Once I got the part it was simple fix.

This must be the one weak link in the Pflueger reels. I had the same thing happen on my Gander Mountain GS 66 this fall (GS 66 is a Pflueger 66 with Gander's name on it). I'm guessing a small piece of ice froze in the worm gear and broke the pin. I would have replaced the pin myself, but since Gander has a great return policy I just took it back. They didn't have any in stock so I just got store credit, and will probably pick up another one when they have them in stock this spring.

Other than that, they seem like pretty solid reels. Don't give up on them!
