Hi guys and gals; new to Musky First. I just bought a St. Croix Big Dawg Rod to throw suzys, pounders 10's etc and am wondering what reel I should put on it. I currently have four 6500 Garcias and am wondering if I need something with a lower gear ratio like the 7000 garcias (4 to 1)? Any advice would be appreciated.

By "10's" do you mean double cowgirls or DC-10's? If so, you probably won't be able to throw them with the St. Croix XXXH (I think that's what you mean by St. Croix Big Dawg). I use a St. Croix 7'6" MH with a Garcia 7000 (4.1:1 gear ratio) for double cowgirls. The size 10 blades create alot of wind resistance and you need the tip to load if you want to any kind of casting distance. Save your XXXH for the big plastics and put a Daiwa Luna on it. They are expensive but well worth it.
