| I am going to buy a 620 or 621 full windshield with a 225 or 250 (etec, yami, verado or Suzuki) this winter or spring.. Looks like I can get several used 2005 and 2006 models for around $35K to $42K... Can someone tell me how this price compares to a brand new Ranger? Also just a general question.. Would you buy one that is a year or two old and try to save a few bucks or buy brand new?? Please explain why you would choose one way or the other.. Thank you for your help in advance... | |||

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I test drove a 620VXs with full windsheild this summer it was an 07 they told me $58K out the door. Advantage I see with a 1-3 year old unit is a substantial savings, of course with new you get the full warrentys but also you pay all the extra freight, prep and rigging charges, bonus is you get it set up the way you want from the start. But is all that worth the extra $10-$15K?

| Got a used 2005 this past spring. I personally would not buy an 06 or newer until they change the hull. The hull is faster on the newer models, but you will take more waves over the bow in big water, casting or trolling. The layout of the newer models is better, as there is more room but I will take less waves over the bow any day over more storage..... As far as price goes, don't know what the new one's go form, probably depends on your options/rigging. Somewhere in the 50k range. | |||

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Your looking at over $50,000 with either a 225 or 250 by any of those brand of motors. However, you might be able to find leftovers under $50,000. I know I delivered a 2006 621 fully loaded with a 250 Yammie fourstroke and a T8 for $47,000 this past summer from Heckels. So yes, the deals are out there, but you won't get a brand new rig for under $50,000 with any of those motors. If I were you and I was looking for a Ranger, I would look to buy used. For heaven sakes, there dime a dozen. There are a lot of good used boats out there for good prices. I would suggest, take your time in finding the right one. Look the boat over good. You can really tell how a guy takes care of his rig but looking closely over things. However, the bad things to buying used, you don't know exactly how it was used. Your warranties will be a little less or may not transfer, they should though.

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Look at the Classifieds here. Pretty good indication what you will find out there in the used Ranger Market. Plus, we have Pamp's in Green Bay and Heckels in Eagle River advertising here, give them a call and get a quote.

Posts: 12 | I would make some calls to all the ranger dealerships, 2007 models will go pretty cheap after all there floors are filled with 2008 models. last year I was one my way to cabelas in rogers and stopped in at crystal peirz and they had some smokeing deals on new 2006 620's loaded for around 42,000 with 225hp and a kicker. If you be patient and look hard you will find the right deal.

Posts: 218 | Take a look at Heckel's ad in the new Musky Hunter or give them a call. They have a 621 listed for a little bit over $40,000. It appeared to be brand new.

Posts: 139 | Be careful when looking at some of the 1 year old used Rangers. Ranger has a program with guides/professionals where they have to buy a new boat every year to get the discount, but in turn will have to sell the boat on their own. Sure you can get one of these 1 year old used boats at a decent discount, but the amount of time some of these guides/professionals spend on the water could be the equivalant of what most of us spend on the water over a 5-10 year period. Like the above post says, take your time and find the right boat. There are plenty of people out there who buy $50k Rangers, spend a few weeks a year on the water, and sell it a couple years later. I bought a 3 year old Ranger 518 VX Comanche 2 years ago with less than 30 hours on the engine, was stored in a garage when it wasn't on the water, had been professionally serviced each year, and I can sell it today for more than I paid 2 years ago.....there are definitely deals out there if you take your time looking.

Posts: 378 Location: Michigan | If you are careflu, and shop around, you can save yourself a lot of $$$. I bought a 2005 620 when it was about 18 months old. It had less than 100 hours on it and I saved myself 15K compared to buying new. As much as I would like to buy a brand spanking new rig, 15K is A LOT of cash... I ended up re-rigging to my liking, so I have to put some additional time and money in to it, but now I have the perfect boat. No, I don't have "the very latest and greatest", but it is a phenominal rig. If you really look at it, the 15 K will get you the latest hull and a longer warranty. There may be value there, but for me it isn't worth 15K. My hull, although not the latest, still works just beautifully. If you have a money tree out back, buy new, if not, put a little effort in to shopping and save yourself some cash. Don;t limit yourself to boats just in your area. Most sellers are willing to work with you on meeting in the middle. I bought my first used boat from a guy 5 hours from me, and the Ranger i drove 9 hours. It was worth it! Good luck.

Posts: 5874 | If you are looking for a lightly used 621, I know of a guy that sells his every year around the end of August. Top of the line electronics, garaged, extremely well taken care of, never abused in big water, and will have relatively low hours. 2, maybe 3, tourneys a year, and some family fishing. I think he sold this years boat for $42K. I f you can wait til next August, let me know. You could probably even get the colors you want with a down payment.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | I would definitely go the used route, looking for boat that meet your needs setup wise, besides saving 10-15K, here in MN you pay no sales tax and a used boat. So that is another 2K of savings. Troyz

Location: Grinnell, Iowa | One thing to consider is financing. Most of us (or at least me) don't have the luxury of buying out right. A lot of banks anymore offer loans for 10+ years even on used boats. So if you are financing and depending on how much cash and/or trade you have to put down, the monthly payment for a 12 year $40,000 note isn't really that much more than the monthly payment for a 12 year $30,000 note. The biggest thing when you are looking at spending that kind of money, is to make sure you get what you want. There is no need to settle when you are talking about buying something that cost's 40-50k. There are plenty of good used boats out there to choose from and it will be awhile before we have good open water again so take your time and get the boat you want. I am currently in the new or "new to me" boat market as well.

Location: Contrarian Island | not that I'm in the market but I always like to look at what people are selling and at what prices..I've seen quite a few 05-07 621's with 225 HO Etechs on them...wouldn't a 621 with a 225 be a bit underpowered? that is one big boat and isn't it rated to 300? curious if anyone is running a 621 with 225 and how is the holeshot / top end...maybe in a few years I'll be in the market for a bigger rig! lots of seemingly good deals right now on used 620/621's out there right now...saw a 621 somewhere I think 06 for 37500k...has to be 20k off new for sure Edited by MSKY HNR 12/12/2007 10:17 AM

Posts: 2069 | A 621 is only 100lbs heavier than a 620 (621 it is slightly more narrow) - 225 moves a 621 just fine - but bigger is better in our great nation right?

I looked for 3 years for a 620 colored and rigged like I wanted, and just couldnt find one I liked. I thought long and hard about getting a used boat that was 10k to 15k cheaper than new but a COLOR I was just ok with and I just couldnt do it so I bought new . I ordered my boat exactly the way I wanted it and rigged the rest myself . When buying used I believe you loose the lifetime hull warranty but it is stll 10 years to the 2nd owner . If you find one you like that is used ,look it over well ,feel out the owner and buy used because you can get at least 4 or 5 tanks of fuel for 15k. LOL JMO Happy holidays Dave

| Me and my bro just ordered a 08, 619 setup the way we wanted it and it came in at 47000. after tax. I know a person can find a 06-07 for about 37000, but We love fishing its in our blood and there is something about ordering a new boat and picking your colors, acc, and so on Can't wait it SPRING | |||
