Im looking to buy a new outboard from some guy i talked to a flee market awhile back but he doesn't ahve any paper work on it. Is there any site i can go to and check to make sure its not stolen or anything like that?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin
Check with the builder, they will have a record on the motor's trip from the factory to the first dealer, that should get you a start.

If it doesn't come with a Warranty and Paper work I whoudn't buy the motor. You Should be able to find a serial # on the motor block some where call the company and ask costomer service for help on this. I smell a great big rat! Marv.

When I bought a used bass boat with a Merc 225 on it, my repair shop was able to take the serial number and pull up records of all the service the former owner had done on the machine. If the motor has no number on it it is likely stolen and I'd run, not walk. m

I would take the serial number in to your local police or call the detective division that handles property crimes. They should be able to run the vin through their local hot desk and L.E.A.D.S. to see if it has been reported stolen. PM me if you have any other questions.

I also have to add that you are to be commneded in your concern to avoid buying stolen goods. We even here on M1st hear all too often of theft. Enough said. I personally thank you.
