Do you have to fish until the season closes or waters freeze? it's done for me, I'll be ice fishing by Monday.

FSF and other lucky folks are fishing all year; where , if you fish all year, do you concentrate your efforts?

one thing about living in southern oh/ ky is being able to chase them all year ---I fish more in nov/dec/jan than I do aug/sept, actually much more. My efforts go towards small local steams , most fish are below 40 inches but the beauty and serenity of a clear green stream can't be beat . My fav time is after a snow when it warms up to the upper 30's . anytime their is snow on the ground while I'm fishing is like bonus points. MD

I'm on the St. Lawrence until Dec 15, or until it hardens. It hasn't done that before 12-15 lately.

Thankfully, rarely do they freeze over here in Missouri/Southern Illinois. Headed to Otter lake this Thursday - hoping to meet a large musky!

i always take off from work to fish "closing day".
this year i made it two days, so i'm fishing Thursday and Friday this week since season closes here in WI on Friday.
i actually look forward to closing day every year, as it's kind of a fun tradition of mine to go out in the cold and say goodbye to muskie fishing for a few months.
i think i actually appreciate opener in the spring even more due to the forced time away from muskie fishing.

Open season in IL, IN, and KY so I will fish whenever I can. Rivers stay open longer even if the lakes freeze, and ice goes away as you head South!

-13 degrees this morning at deer camp, and it looks like the LOTWs is pretty solid. The next week or so calls for lots of temps near zero or below. Should be able to drive out in a week or so. First ice walleyes on the LOTWs are pretty interesting!

However, starting around mid-February I'll be fishing the FSF and others for two months or so in the south. Pretty nice to be retired!

Here in IN...no closed season...can fish 24/7/365 if I was able to. Fishing for me...for this season...I believe is "done" and has been done for quite some time due to family commitments with young kids.

I'm really hoping we get some ice again this season..and hopefully earlier than last season and hopefully for a longer period of time this winter than last season: A) our IN fish just simply need a break due to no closed season and B) I'm looking forward to ice fishing for panfish, eyes and Northerns. Here in IN....it's always a crap-shoot if we're going to have a winter that'll produce and support any kind of safe ice. I grew up Ice fishing in southern MI...I miss having a winter that produced quality ice from end of Nov to March. Now...we're lucky if we get a few weeks at most. Last winter was actually pretty good here in IN with 12" of ice for a few weeks. It came late in the winter and was gone by early/mid Spring though. I haven't ice fished for 5 years prior to last year...due to very mild IN winters. If there was ice in those past five year...I just didn't trust it to risk it...

Sometimes, I can fish through the end of Dec, sometimes, there is ice at the end of Nov. This year, though, I think I'm done. I've been trying to figure out how to post a picture of my xrays in the "weekly picture contest", more a joke than anything. No duck hunting, either the way it looks.

I'm done for the year. Have to spend some family time now. I usually fish the last couple days of the season, but vacation time is used up from guiding and the new little one. I ended the season on a last cast fish (kind of) so its on a good note.

Bring on the harbor browns this winter. That helps pass the time.

Brought the boat in to get winterized this morning. Gusts to 40 mph today and 26 degrees the rest of the week made it an easier decision.
