Posts: 96 | Yesterday afternoon I was out for maybe one last hurrah on Minnetonka and ran into a homeowner on the west end whom I've spoken with a few times over the years. His home is in an area I often fish late season. When we stopped to fish he told me I was "waisting my time fishing this particular area now". Of course I had to ask why and he explained a couple bass guys were fishing a tournament earlier this fall and had slit the throat of some 3 muskies, including a 54" (of course one I'd been chasing earlier). He witnessed the one and later noticed the others on shore. I do have to applaud this gentleman as he immediately called the TIP line and as I understand these bozo's were later fined $5000. Not enough in my opinion. He then went on to describe the boat, etc and I realized I have seen these guys fishing the same general areas I do numerous times! It just irks me to think they could have (and probably did) done this repeatedly over the course of the summer! I won't go into specifics on the description but I just wanted everyone to be aware this does happen and if you witness this sort thing please do as this homeowner did and call the TIP line! I fish this lake OFTEN and I've never once seen the DNR so it's up to us to keep our eyes pealed.

| I just don't understand the logic of some people. If I don't like it, I'm going to try and wreck it for others. Silly | |||

| the really annoying part is that the bass fishing on tonka is still fantastic with the muskies in the lake......these guys must be terrible bass fisherman and they blame that on muskies | |||

| Guest I agree about the quality of the bass fishing. However, I've noticed the fish have repositioned in response to the presence of muskies. Guest | |||

Posts: 444 | That's the most horrific thing i have ever heard, they should lose there license for a lifetime and have everything confiscated and sold, the money from selling there equipment should then go to restocking muskies in tonka...

| Any bass waters where muskies are introduced, the muskies become the top shelf predator, taking the prime spots, and bass location changes, usually deeper, taking the secondary spots. We face this same bass catch and kill logic here in Illinois and Indiana, and all you can do is educate the bass crowd and report poachers | |||

| none of this should be surprising and will likely continue to frustrate ... being interested in the animal on the top of the food chain doesn't come without it's challenges ... look around at any other animal with the same place of distinction and you'll find the same challenges with even more devastating results ... we are a minority when it comes to the love of these slimey fish ... | |||

Ain't it the truth, Sled, ain't it the truth. This type of behavior exhibited by these people is a great example of why we as musky anglers should try to get involved with local clubs (like Muskies, Inc., etc.) to do what we can for the preservation of this wonderful fish we love to chase. There are those on these boards that do yeomans work when it comes to enhancing the musky fisheries we all enjoy. Even if we all pitch in and do the littlest things to help the musky fisheries, it adds up for the betterment of all. It's too bad that a few clowns kill fish b/c of their selfish attitude. What a shame!!

| Can the DNR be convinced this is not an isolated incident and allocate the $5,000 fine paid to purchase more fish from private farms to supplement the DNR and TC chapter stockings? It would be nice to see the fine be applied directly to the fishery that was damaged. | |||

Posts: 47 | It's unfortunate this happens all the time. I agree the $ should go to the lake that was damaged. Many lakes all over the state see this kind of ignorance.

Posts: 109 Location: Spencer, Wisconsin | I have only fished Tonka a few times over the years and totally enjoyed that body of water and the surounding community but this act of not caring or frustration should be not tolerated by no angler. Very glad to hear a fine was passed on to them but would have like to see them loose their right to fish that body of water for life, have their boat and gear confiscated, and mostly their name shamed for a brainless act as killing a fish in the local paper ie; you've been marked! Geesh what loosers...

Posts: 138 Location: Utah | What jerks and destroying a wonderful resource. IMO they should be banned from fishing and also banned from fishing any further tournaments for a minimum of at least five years. Also have a picture of their boat and their mugs featured at each launch facility within a 150 mile range of Tonka. Next, it should be brought up during the rules of any future bass tournaments about destroying other game fish and severe penalities attached for anyone caught. Maybe that would get the message across but again IMO.

Posts: 929 Location: Rhinelander. | Its disgusting that such things are going on. Its not just that body of water but many lakes. I have had customers tell me that they know of someone or that they themselves kill the muskies they catc. Its the old they eat all my walleyea and panfish thing. Thats why I always say when we go and try to get bigger limits on thee lakes for muskie a good relationship with the lake asociation has be established. These people ned to be educated on this and just maybe that type of thing can be reduced. Pfeiff

| New CSI Series, I can see it now...on the Outdoor Channel. "Darned cotton swabs stick every time..." "Take that scale sample to DNA, and put a rush on it" " That's my blood, not the Muskie's...teeth are sharp, dude!" "Darned cotton swabs stick every time...can we just do an anal swab?" "I performed the autopsy late last night, C.O.D. was sanguination." "Darned blanket sticks to everything, just plain sticks to everything" "Send out the crew, make sure you cover every inch of the crime scene. Look for a Bass Boat, witnesses said there was one nearby, lurking, at approximately the time of the murder. Check for outboard oil residue, there may be a unique signature, high performance bass boaters sometimes use custom built lubricants" "This one seems to have suffered bullet elevation of larynx and tongue, closing the oro-pharynx to collapse" " I did not know they HAD an oro-pharynx" "That is why I am a ME (Muskie Examiner) and you, are..." Last scene... You, sir, are under arrest. it was the knife, you see. After the ID of your craft from multiple residue refractive burn tests and proof given to us by those irrefutable tests you run that 250 YaMercSuzda, it was easy to test your line cutting knife for MDNA, and indirectly as a result, we found DNA matching one of our specimens...Yes, we know you threw that knife in the deep waters on Minnnnnetunka and degraded the MDNA on the blade, BUT!!! We got you anyway...you shouldn't have wiped that blade on your rain pants." Ending B&W Text Screen fades out to Slamr trolling around slowly in a circle into B&W...The DA will try this scum for stupidity, wanton waste of the resource, and stupidity. Wanton waste behavior you can correct, but you just can't fix stupid... I'd watch it...and hope these morons get 25 to life fishing nothing but bullheads in a farm pond and a $25,000.00 fine. | |||

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | Tonka Boy - 11/26/2007 8:11 AM he immediately called the TIP line Rather than getting worked into a lather about something that cannot be controlled, we should celebrate the fact that in this case, they got caught. The system is set up to address these actions, it's nice to see someone using it! S. Oh, and I hope he got a huge reward. Edited by sorenson 11/26/2007 7:58 PM
