Dec 1st was proposed to be closing but if you call DNR headquarters in St Paul 'Nobody" has heard of it,,not receptionists or Fisheries office, the two people that are in position to have final word, one is sick and the other on vacation,,,hopefully have some closure on this soon I left a voice mail,,post when I know

actually when the corn comes down and the swamps freeze its going to be the best pheasnt season in 45 years,,I think Im spending dec on land

I haven't heard anything about it in months. As far as I know it's the same as last year.

Shep

in the regs book its listed under "regulations that could be implmented",,,which leaves everybody wondering

the reason they stated that is because it wasnt decided yet and the regs book had met its printing deadline

Ah. Well, then I guess the answer is yes, or no. hehehe Actually, unless they clearly state it on the DNR website, or issue an adeendum, then I guess it would be the same as last year.

Thanks for clarifying that HH.

I got the same message in an email.....at least there is consistency in the DNR office!

"The proposal to end the muskie season on Nov. 30 instead of Feb. 24 is in a rule package. The package has been awaiting approval in the Governor's office for a while.
The change is planned to take place this year, but until the Governor signs the package, it is and will not be official. There will be a new release when and if it goes into effect, as well as a posting on our DNR website. At this time nothing is official, but it sounds like it will be."

Is this early closing more targeted at shortening the spearing season?

Actually one of the primary issues this looks to address is the targeting of Twin cities metro tigers at first ice. I have not ever targeted them thru the ice, but they're pretty active and succeptable to early season pressure, at least that's part of the basis for this issue as it was presented at the round table last winter.

They're after pike.

It was also pushed by some of the guys down in S MN as there is an early season bite where people are keeping a bunch of fish.

We submitted a letter to the commissioner and all applicable offices last month requesting the closure and our reasons for it's importance, we have received no word yet but expect a answer soon, we'll post as soon as we hear anything.
