Location: Twin Cities | The motor is a 115Hp yamaha 4 stroke (2005). The water pump was replaced once already because of a "squelling" noise. Since then the water pump has began making the squelling noise again. The water pump bearing has been replaced too. The noise seems to happen when trolling, or after a long wide open run. Does anyone know what is happening here?

Location: Black Creek, WI | Mine does the same thing. Typically, just changing the paddle (an annual event) does the trick... but this season mine started squeeling by July... and it usually lasts a full season. The pump works fine... but the squeeling sure gets obnoxious after awhile. If you find a better fix... let me know. |

Location: W. PA. | I changed mine last year and haven't heard any squealing before or after. Also didn't see any bearing while I was in there. the pump was like every other one I ever did, just a rubber impeller that slips over the driveshaft.
I do know of a plastic bushing below the powerhead that causes some squealing. You can drop your lower unit and grease the upper part of the driveshaft to make it go away. |
