I have a 1999 6.0hp johnson, when I tilt it up for a day or so there is a small spot of oil on the ground, it seems to be leaking from a small hole about 12" above the bottom of the motor, the hole is on the opposite side of the prop and is about 1/16" in dia. and goes all the way through. What is that hole for?
Thanks
VMS

Hi!!

I believe that is just a vent-hole for the mid section of the lower unit. Some water will come out of it when the motor is running.

The oil you are getting out of there is just oil residue from exhaust. Nothing wrong with the motor...Its just dirty in there... when there is enough build-up it will run down and drain out where it can. Nothing big...just a little mess now and then on the floor or on the outside of the midsection/lower unit.
