Subject: C3 Question

I now have two C3's that I can real in reverse. Both went bad on the same day. I was using them for basic Jerk and twitch applications. Anybody have these problems? I will be sending them back to get repaired. Should I switch to a different reel? Any suggestions.

Thanks
Dave

sounds like your anti-reverse bearing failed. I was reading on a reel repair web site (sorry dont remember wich one) the guy that owns the repair shop had an article on his site talking about useing high test super lines such as 80# and up on reels that were probably not designed for it and with musky rods being very stout, super lines being so strong, and the stess that useing large jerk baits puts on you gear (not to mention the big fish that go along with the jerk baits[] ) something has to give, and acording to this guy its usually the reels.should be a very easy repair that any reel repair shop could handle.

Was it a very cold day when they both stopped working? The grease in the antireverse bearing can stop it working on cold days. It can be worth flushing the grease out of the AR bearing and applying some heavy oil or light grease instead for the cold parts of the year. Probably worth putting a LITTLE heavier grease back for the summer though. As they both stopped working on the same trip I expect that is the problem.
