I have a 1991 Johnson 2 stroke and it started to drip a little lower unit oil. I noticed a small 2" puddle under it in the garage before I went out the last time. When I pulled it out of the water and got it ready to head home I had atleast 3 drops on the ground. The center of the prop looks like it was smeared with butter scotch or what lower unit oil looks like when it is cooked but the puddles are nice clean greenish oil. All the lower unit oil plugs are tight and dont have oil dripping from them, it looks like it's coming from the center of the prop. Is this normal for an older motor or do I need a new seal of some sort. Thanks in advance for your help and input. (Maybe it's just marking it's territory LOL.)

Definitely NOT normal for oil to come out. From what you describe, the shaft seal is bad and the oil is coming from there. If you do a quick inspection by pulling off the prop and checking around the seal, you will probably find your leak.

Definitely want to get it fixed.

Is this something easy to repair myself or should I take it in?
