| I bought some Hedron flashabou, which as I understood it was what the Cowgirl's are made of. Yet, even to the naked eye the Hedron material is thinner than what is used on my gold/orange blades Cowgirl.
To make matters even more confusing is that some of the pearl (standard) Hedron flashabou appears to be larger (diam) than other colors.
Is Brad using a different supplier for their flashabou? I've tried contacting them without an answer. |

That would help explain things... lol! The thinner diameter stuff looks great in the water, but I do see the advantage of having the slightly thicker material. Their (Musky Mayhem) size must be between the standard 1/32 and 1/16 (saltwater) sizes. |

I have it. You have to have an FET number to buy the stuff the Cowgirl is made from. The retail stuff is 1/69 and the bigger Cowgirl stuff is 1/32 and is stiffer. Hedron only sells it in 140" hanks. Same colors but not available for retail, just manufacturers and again with an FET number. Good stuff IMO, and it is different than other 1/32 material as it is slightly stiffer and I think it is made for saltwater applications. Hope that helps even though it is hard to get fro a guy making only a few baits. FYI-I think the Cowgirl also uses the 1/69 material but blends it with the 1/32. Those guys read these boards so they can comment 1000% better on this than I can.

Location: Minnesota | Federal Excise Tax number. It means I get the opportunity as a bait builder to pay an extra tax to the US gov.  Yet another reason to spend hours in the garage building baits for $2/hr! LOL
I do like firemen, poliice, DNR, and more resources though so I am happy to pay my share....most of the time.... |

| There are a couple of other companies out there, as well, that do a wide/heavy flash/tinsel material. I've found several from flytying that are equal to, if not better, than flashabou. One of the big things, in saltwater flies, is that you have to have flex while maintaining the strength. I've been using a holoflash from a company that is slightly heavier than flashabou, and I've found it to be much more resilient. I've also been using Yak hair on some of my bucktails, as it is longer and provides more a full tie.
For those interested in smaller quantities, mylar motion from Spirit River is 1/32" material, has a multitude of colors, and is phenomenal. |

| I get it from a couple different flyshops.
Flyshack has 1/32" Holoflash,
Orvis has a Mirror Flash,
Wapsi sells the Saltwater Flashabou. (this is a 1/16" material, btw)
If you have a flyshop anywhere near you, they will order it for you, I am sure. As well.
The original Spirit River "Mylar Motion" shouldn't be too hard to find. Heck for that matter, you might call Spirit River directly, and see if they can help you out.

Thanks for the link! I have always wanted to try some things out with that fly stuff that is stiff and round vs flat. Just have not gotten around to buying it yet. I have some glow stuff from Hedron which makes for some interesting bucktails but I have not done anything with them yet. I think that first stuff is more ridged though. Every trided athe material labeled "Glass Mylar Motion" or the likes?

| Yeah, I've used the Glass. I use it a lot on saltwater flies more than anything. It's a fairly limp material. It's quite good for layering. I wouldn't think that it would be a good material solo on bucktails, given that it is translucent. I suppose, though, that it would be a good shad/splake/whitefish imitation, but having that big flashy blade defeats the purpose of the translucent, flash-free material. |
