Do the members of the TC muskie Inc group or others who have seen the plan know if there are any new metro lakes that will be stocked with pure strain muskies?

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | There are no specific lake names mentioned in the long range plan in regards to future stocking. As far as metro lakes, there is talk about the tiger lakes in terms of which ones to continue to stock, if they should continue to stock some, or if they should convert any current tiger lakes into a pure strain lake. Again, no specific lake names are given. Aaron

I've already talked to the West metro DNR and we're looking at Prior right now since there's really nothing south of the river. I wouldn't mind seeing another one on the east side too. It's all very preliminary right now so who knows what we'll end up with.

Posts: 357 Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | Andy, Treats and Hooker: Do you know if the lakes of the future will be named at the time when they post the plan out on their site? I would really like to see what the plan entails and what lakes are going to be involved.

It's meant as a guide to what the overall goal is and how they will go about achieving that, how to determine good candidates for future lakes, etc. It's a relatively lengthy process to go from choosing a lake to propose for future stocking to actually beginning the stocking process itself. The Fargo-Moorhead Muskies Inc. Chapter has stocked a West-Central Minnesota lake for two years now. It is a lake that did not previously contain Muskies. It's a 5 year plan we are undertaking at a cost of $25,000.00 to us. Money well spent in my opinion, if we can get a brand new Muskie fishery out of the deal.

Did you get a promise of designation and a future minimum?

Guest, are you asking me? I have no idea what you're refering to, as I was not the contact person. 5 Years/ $25,000.00 is all the information I have. Two years ago we put 566 fish in, and this year I think we put in 580.

Great job guys. You're doing what Gil Hamm envisioned MI could accomphlish. What I was referring to was is the lake going to designed for no spearing (designation) and do you know if the DNR has set a minimum on that lake for the future? Hopefully that was worked out before this generous commitment was signed into. That's all I'm asking.

I believe that was discussed, but I can't recall the actual details. The lake in question is on Indian property, and we spoke in great length to the Tribal DNR about spearing and such. I'm not sure if we really needed the MN DNR's approval on the project or just the Tribal DNR's? Our Chapter contact for the project would know. I may e-mail him and get the facts on the deal. I remember when they netted the fish to stock in the lake two years ago, that a couple of adult fish were somehow still in the pond. I think there were 38" and 42" fish put in with those. The DNR tested some dead fish in the area, and I know one 49 inch fish was found to be about 12 years old. They say it takes about 6 years for fish in the area lakes here to get to 40 inches, so it won't be too long till we've catching some that we stocked. That's pretty cool in my opinion.
