While fishing in PA I caught something I never did before. It felt like 25lb weight while reeling it in..This snapper was nuts...actually had hooks in it mouth and when buddy Todd was brave enough to take the hook out of its mouth it went crazy and bite lure again, then clamped down on my boat!.... never seen one that close and that aggressive. Well I guess if I had some hooks in me I wouldn't be happy either..

See Muskie fishing is extreme!...

Oh as a reference, that lure in its mouth is 8", so it wasn't small..

LOL! Nice one!

Catching Snapping Turtles is always fun. I've never caught one while fishing for Muskie...but..back in the day, in my teenage years...we'd go fishing specifically for Snapping Turtles and catch some that were well over the 60 lb mark. That was always a blast.

Nice by-catch! They're extremely docile underwater unless you REALLY screw around with them. The big snappers seem more inquisitive/investigative than scared if you're with them underwater. Here's one that was messing with me as I tried to collect data on a small bluegill colony. He kept reappearing beneath my legs and finally I decided protecting the family jewels was a lot more important than getting the data for our project! Just kidding... sort of.

I was watching a "Dirty Jobs" marathon a little while ago where Mike Rowe was working on a reptile farm in Texas. The guy that owned the place had a bunch of GOLIATH snappers and told Mike that recently a scientist (presumably) had discovered buck shot from the Civil War in a snapping turtle making that one about 150 years old!!!!!

I caught one this summer on a 10" Sluggo. Thought I was snagged at first.
