| I'm picking up the a new 115 optimax tommorrow and have a question about the break in process. Is it better to set time aside and do the break in process over a couple of long sessions, or just keep track over normal fishing time. The reason I ask is that if it is done over normal fishing time that could take awhile as up where we fish the motor would only run for a short time each trip. Thanks | |||

Location: Athens, Ohio | I'd ask the service manager when you pick it up. m

These are the 2 most important hours while breaking in an opti. Find yourself the biggest lake in the area, grab a beverage and a stereo and go to work. Good luck with the new rig!

| I'll second what Treat's said. If I remember right an opti needs only an hour or two. I did mine in an afternoon, just doing laps on the lake. Remember to go the opposite direction every so often so you don't get dizzy.. | |||

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | The first 2 hours are the time where you vary the speed. It continues to double oil for 10 total hours. At least that was the drill both times I had to break mine in...

| Thanks. I heard about the 2 hour point being the most important. I dont have the manual in front of me yet, but when I go through it I will be sure to follow it closely. The beverage and a radio sounds like agood plan. | |||

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I did my break-in on the new 1890 while fishing, just kept track of running time on the motor. Varied the speed for the first 2 keeping the motor under 4500 for the most part, then the next two varied the speed with some WOT mixed in. It took me 4 days of fishing half days and a couple evenings to get it broken in.

| Thanks for the help. It was dropped off this morning, so by the weekend I'll start breaking it in. | |||

Posts: 126 | Do what ever the manual says. If the procedure isn't followed you will void the warranty. Yes they will know, the little computer can tell them everything.
