and we have had these kind of temps for the last two weeks. no rain for over a month. if you have to litter going down the interstate,PLEASE dont throw out your cigarette butts (if your a smoker) as we have had three fires from this just on a five mile stretch of I-44. water temps over 90* has put all fishing to a stop. so my question of the day is,what happens to our muskies when the water gets so hot??? can they survive the conditions if left alone??? could we expect a fish kill??? i know the fish can go deeper, but only so far for lack of oxygen????

I'm concerned about that too.

I know MODOC has stocked a few of the Kentucky strain, not a lot though, but I wondered if they were a little more heat tolerant. If they are I hope they stock a bunch more...it would be nice if we could get some fish like the whoppers some of the guys up north post on here.

I think they do okay... just dont fish for them. Last year we had more HOT days in a row and water temps were just as high or higher and they did fine.

Supposed to be about 100 here again today too.
I think I'll go fishing...water temps are about 74-75.

p.s., my guess is that your fish will be fine if not further stressed by something else.

How about if go down to Tanneycomo, fish a litle for trout and them bring back a truck load of that cold, cold Tanney water to our favorite musky honey hole! I stoped today at my favorite musky lake in Illinois driving from Springfield, IL and found the water temp at the the boat ramp was 93. Good thing is I did not see a trailer in the parking lot!

Not all bad. I have grown accustomed to the therapeutic lake temps in summer. Great swimming. Forget the 70 degree threshold...give me that 87 and a pair of shades.

Muskies apparently go down to the thermocline and hang out there. They do get severly stressed and the local chapter of MI encourages folks not to fisah for them util water temps get back down below 80. That occurs in mid-Sept generally. Unfortunately these fish are catchable in these conditions and generally don't survive the release. It is not uncommon to find dead fish floating after a release. Many years ago there was a person catch five one day and all were found floating the next. That's when we started the campaign.

Going to be another day today (Thur) above or at 100. Time to find something else to do for a few weeks.
