In early summer I usually try to fish the warmest water in the lake, usually the windy side. What about in mid to late summer when the water is already warm? Do you still fish the warmest water, cool water or no difference? The other night I had 75 on the lee side and 82 on the windy side.

i'd stick with the cooler water temperature...82 is a bit high, puts a lot of stress on a muskie

Queg, fishing temperature chart, Muskies lower avoidance 55, optimum 63. upper avoidance 72 . lower water temps give less stress then higher water temp's to most fish. The Ohio River Basin fish seem to tolerate higher water temp's then the northern strans of muiskies. Most guides here on Cave Run shut down their services around the 2nd. weekend of June and that's pushing it. I stop fishing the Cave when the water temps hit 77* 78-79 Im off the lake. I don't like to kill a muskie if I can help it. I had a 47"er go belly up 3 years ago in June, water temp 78*. I do belive that the Great Lakes and Minn. strans stress out at lower temps then southern fish., Allso the bigger the fish the greater the chance of that fish will not make it. This is just a guide I go by after Fishing & Guiding for muskies for over 40, years. Marv.

Back to Jarnotsky - - It depends a lot on the lake your on, in the spring with low water temps I look for the warmest bay's on the lake. when the bait fish move out to cooler water the Muskies move with them, stay with them when water temps start hitting the low 70's start looking for cooler water. the muskies will move to higher water temps to feed and allso digest food, they allso go back to cooler and deeper water to rest. and get ready for a nother go at killing large ugly lookin fishing lures. Take Care , Good fishing to you Marv.

Take a look at the temps a few feet down, too. Surface water movement can get you to cooler water if it's there, and a sudden change in wind after a sustained opposite direction can cause mixing on the lee shore sans the warm surface water and pretty cool water temps for awhile.
