Hi all,

I have a couple baits (a reef hawg and a bobbie) I want to re-paint. Of course, I put a coat of E-tex on each last spring, so I need ideas how to remove. What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Eric

I use zip-strip or any paint stripper on envirotex coatings or any paint job on my lures. It may take a couple of applications but it will soften it up. I take a razor blade(a straight, single edge blade you can buy in packs at Walmart-not a Bic) in between applications and scrape off whatever paint that will come off. These sharp blades really do the trick. Repeat until its all off. Usually no more than 3 coats of paint stripper will do it. Then I sand down the lure and repaint.
Hopfully this works okay for you or someone will have a faster solution!

Bluegill, use a heatgun. It will soften the clear and you can peel it off with a knife.

Thanks to you both. I'll probably try the heat first, then the paint stripper.

Soak them in MEK for about an hour, then take a rag and rub it off
. Works very well, but it is nasty stuff, make sure you wear gloves. MEK is available at HD, Menards etc.

If you use the MEK do it in a well ventilated area and use a respirator. Your liver will thank you. Nasty stuff.
