Posts: 462 Location: Syracuse, Indiana | Ramp Etiquette Rant - Over the weekend I saw (in no particular order): 1. Two ramps blocked while someone prepared a boat to go out. 2. A ramp blocked by someone standing on it, ostensibly to "hold" the ramp for a truck and trailer 6 or 7 places back in line down a single lane road. 3. Boats pulled up on a ramp effectively blocking the ramp for anyone else. 4. A boat tied to a boat landing pier for over 45 minutes without anyone around it, effectively blocking a ramp. 5. Truck and trailer rigs parked to take up 2 spaces in the lot. 6. Rigs parked in exit lanes (blocking the egress from the ramp). I could probably go on. I know the weekend was one of the busiest for boating. I know I am preaching to the choir. I know more egregious activities undoubtedly occurred elsewhere. I know in the grand scheme of things an hour at the ramp to load my boat and go (normally about 5 minutes) is not huge. Sorry about the rant, but the whole ordeal ticked me off. Question - How do we educate these idiots, many of whom were inebriated, most of whom had no clue there was a problem, and none of whom were willing to accept help, about basic ramp etiquette?

Posts: 1270 | I saw a guy trying to "hold" the launch by standing in it once. After I almost backed over him he decided to move. The other great one is one guy is launching the boat while the other guy goes and stands in the last parking space to hild it for him. I was done launching before him and just pulled right in the spot after almost running the guy over. I got some nasty looks but I give a crap!

Here in Missouri, every year, I tell my friends I can problably make a living selling videos of funny events at the boat ramps. I really like river ramps when you have current, the ramp not on a downstream angle and rookie boat driver! I finally waded out to a guy who was trying to put his boat on the trailer after watching him for 40 minutes!

Posts: 111 Location: somewhere! | I second Jonesi recommandation. My favorite thing to watch at the boat ramp,is when people with drive on trailers take 45mins to crank their boats up.lol

Posts: 110 Location: Albertville, Minnesota | I forgot to mention in another post, while waiting and watching the big pond boat access circus, I did watch a guy roll his boat off the trailer before it was all the way in the water....good thing for him the motor was trimmed way the heck up. I think last weekend was your typical once a year lake warriors or the typical vacation mentality where you leave your brains, etiquette, and matureness at home....too much to pack I guess. A couple years ago, I let this older gentlemen go ahead of me because it was quite hot out and he blocked the ramp to finish the rest of his boat securing and unloading of gear. Like said above, it is hard to preach to stupidity. I had two boats dock on my bumpers at a resort two weeks ago and another person pull in and block a spot in a parking lot in front of my boat when there were plenty of other parking places.
