Hi - I don't get down to the Metro much and I'm taking a friend from Missouri fishing on Sunday.

Boating a fish is not a priority so much as getting out for a few hours and getting a decent fishing experience.

I realize it's going to be a busy but I'm looking for lake suggestions that would allow for a few hours of fishing, worried mostly about parking and boat traffic.

Thanks for any suggestions - I'm totally blank on this one.

Parking will be an issue but I would go to Calhoun, harriet or nakomis. Electric motors only. But that keeps the boat traffic down. get there early enough and parking is no problem. If Harriet is the choice be wary the one lot is permit onlly.

by metro do you mean surrounding area or 'RIGHT" in the city???

if metro,, Independence is set in a parklike setting with ample parking and one of the most heavily stocked,,boat traffic can be bad but name me a lake other then the electric motor ones that dosent have traffic..

Harriet is good but depending on what runway the airport is using it can be 'horribly loud' has the constant one after another planes descend over the lake.Has the above poster mentioned its an elecetric motor only lake,,this dosent mean you cant have your gas motor on it just that you cant start it or run it, I too have to point out 'watch" where you park the park police love to ticket you any chance they get, They even 'smash" expensive $1000 side SUV windows when they see somebody leave a dog in the car when instead they could just smash the door ones,,my point is the park police are ####K's

Tiger muskies??? this might be your best choice for solitude in the city,,,Nokomis is an electric motor only lake has an excelent population and nobody fishes it, its also close to the airport but you have no boat traffic at all even the sailboats dont use it has much.
Lake of the isles is the ultimate in solitude unfortuitly this time of year its usually a swamp with all the weeds overgrown however this lake does get mechanicly mowed so a check beforehand might find it fishable,

Familiar with the "scenery" at Calhoun and weeds at LOIsles- we've fished it before but not much luck and just wanted to do something different .

I sincerely appreciate the advice - probably will hit Nikomis or Indy, just want to get a few casts in without too much hassle.

Coming from Kellett I have to believe he is talking about the fruit booters ("guys" roller blading around the lakes in bike shorts)

Sorry visor boy but you set yourself up for that!

The scenery is best on Calhoun. Harriet would be 2nd with Nokomis coming in last. However you can get a nice view if you fish under the Cedar Ave bridge on Nokomis. It's a good place to fish too with the shade and the submerged pile ons. If you want solitude try Cedar. You have to go through two lakes to get there but it's very quiet.

You can also fish Bush Lake in Bloomington (take Bush Lake road south from I-494 to the lake). There is a launch there and low pressure. I have caught some really nice bass and there are plenty of tigers in there. The lake does have some good structure, with good weed beds on the deep points.
