Location: Eau Claire, WI | I've got basically a new maxxum that, for the second time now, appears to have bad brushes. I need to pick the thing up and slam it back down or bang on the side of the motor to get it going again. Also, my transducer does not work consistently either, no reading then it will kick in/kick out. I know the depth finder works fine, its the transducer.
Anybody out there with a similar experience? Any Minnkota techs out here that can help me put this to bed once and for all?
I've got one place in Eau Claire to take this motor and, as you can imagine, I'm really optimistic (ha ha) that the guy who "fixed" it the first time is going to get it right this time around. The more info I can have going in will help.
Please respond here or if you'd prefer PM or email me.
Thanks,
Jono

| it sounds to me like either the brush plate is cracked[it happens in shipping] or that you have a bad armature.we have seen both of these issues several times in the past year.have your tec guy pull the armature and test the lobes for continuity.it's very easy to find a dead spot.the brush plate will need to come out and be inspected for damage.they may look good while they are installed but the back could be cracked from a severe blow while in shipping which is not detectable until removed.minnkota will cover these fixes under warranty. |

| i forgot to mention that if it is eating up brushes it definetly has a cracked brush plate that is allowning the armature to wobble under power.you really can't see the wobble when running it out of the water but when there is water pressure against it things change. |

Any thoughts about the transducer problem?

| if your depth finder requires a 'mkr-us- 2 style' adapter i don't know for sure what it might be but if it takes the original style adapter the transducer in the motor probably needs to be replaced.have your tec call minnkota to see what they reccommend for your particular unit. |
