I freind said there is a new unit out that can charge up the trolling motor batteries with the outboard motor... I can't seem to find anything on the Minnkota web site.

Is there such an animal?

Is this something some of you are using & how well does it work?

Thanks
Mike

In there new catalog it shows just such a unit but when I talked to my contact at Minn Kota he said they were having problems with it and it wouldn't be out till '08. That sucks because I could really use just such a critter.

Dual Pro makes an alternator charger as well as STEALTH Charging Systems. I've heard good things about both. There is one drawback though, don't be buying one of these systems if you fish small water, they won't do you any good. They are for guys who fish big water and make long runs. Yor engine needs to be out-puting a certain voltage to charge the batteries. Your batteries won't charge while the big engine is idling, only at higher RPM's and for long distances will you see an advantage.

http://www.yandina.com/trollinfo.htm The bass boat guys use these a lot. It will allow you to charge from either the big motor alternator when under way or the truck's alternator when towing the boat.

I have been using the Stay-n-Charge rig for several years and I can't say enough good things about it. Jim, the owner is a real stand up guy and really supports his products. if you have ANY questions or problems. Check them out at http://www.stayncharge.com/ . No, I don't get a kickback or anything. I just really have been treated well by them.

He has a new system for 7 pin trailer outlets that is his best yet!

I've been using a Perko switch for many, many years.. Google Perko switch and you'll get plenty of info on it. You can select which battery gets the amps while motoring to your next honeyhole. Only draw back to the Perko switch is it's large, cumbersome size. I installed my under the rear deck by the batteries. I run one starting batt and 2 trolling motor batts in parallel.

Hi all,

Mo's right on the money go with a Perko switch and you'll love it. I've had it for years and the only time I recharged my batteries was in the spring.

Hello Mike;
If you go to "The Hull Truth" website, there is a section for boating or outdoor photos. Look at the 2nd or 3rd HOT topic about "My Mako project" by Ringleader. He has had a lot of good information in the last few pages about what your looking for. InFisherman may also still have some information about charging from your outboard. They did have some time ago.........
