Looking for recommendations for a good rod/reel combo for throwing the big double bladed bucktails. Anything to reduce arm/wrist fatigue while still having enough power for hooksets, etc.

I'd like a longer rod in the 8'6" variety and I imagine an extra heavy action might be good for hooksets and casting performance, but will take any suggestions.

As to reels, a low gear ratio with high line capacity and power handle seems to be what guys are using, but would appreciate advice as well.

Not looking to break the bank either. But would appreciate learning what you guys are using and why.

Thanks in advance.

I am using a 8'10" custom St. Croix SCIII extra heavy blank and a Abu 7000.. I have a couple 8'6" rods with Calcutta TE's on them and the 7000 works much better for burning cowgirls.. The 7000 is big and heavy which is a drawback when fishing all day..

Thorne bros custom 8' avid heavy w/ 7000C3... I've also used my 8' diamondback heavy w/ a 7000 big game, but I like the stiffness of the avid as well as the lower gear ratio of the c3 better for cowgirls. Either one get's the job done pretty well tho.
