A little windy up north. My trolling motor battery is DOA so after a few hours of fast drifting I got fed up with pulling weeds off the big motor.

I had one strike (I don't think it was legal sized) at boatside on a double topkick in just under 3ft of water. Water temps were 57-59*. I had action, at this point that's enough to satisfy.

First of all, a big Thank you to Norm for offering up his open seat to my dad and I on Sunday. The Three Lakes chain was the destination and after being blown around the lake for 6 hours, and catching lots of pike, I finally connected on a fish. A strong fight, and a great net job by my dad resulted in my P.B., a 46+" beauty.

The fish was caught in 5 feet of water with weeds present. The water temp was around 60 degrees.
After a few pics and a measurement, she swam away strong.

Thanks again to Norm and my dad. A great time was had.

Mike

That's getting the season started. Way to go, Mike. I'm looking forward to getting in the boat with Norm at the Rhinelander outing. Hope to see you up there, too.

GREAT fish! Wish I had had the time to get out. Just a couple hours on Saturday evening was all I could do. Oh well, maybe next week!

LOL, We talked about that in the boat after the catch Sunday.

It was a tough day Sunday right up to about 6:00 when it turned into a great day. That was one awesome fight to watch, and I don't think I could have wrestled that net away from your dad, I think he wanted to net that one. It was kind of strange just being an observer in my boat, I'm really not use to that.

I had a great time in the boat with the two of you, Congrats!

Hey guys,
Lori and I put in on DuBay Saturday. Nothing to show for it but a dink pike, and two lazy follows. Took out, got lunch (brat fry at Mullins Cheese factory). Put in again. Holy crap, talk about action! Lori had her Topperstopper knocked out of the water by two different fish, I had my Lee's chopper hit, a few follows, and a fish that hit the side of the boat on the first turn into the 8 on a manta, and a 31" northern. today, Kevin (from the shop) put out at poygan. Kev got a small, but super pretty GLS musky. Sorry, no pics of fish.

Found fish everywhere this weekend, and on the flip side found them nowhere. Lots of action with few in the boat other than Mark and Clay's one fish (41") in the WMT on Twin, and a 34" and 42" prefishing. Saturday Gordy lost a real nice fish in the 46" range on a giant rubber bait at boatside, while we had action from about 8 others that morning on big topwaters and plastics. Gillich and I chased another nice one around on Sunday and could not get her to eat, again in that mid-40" range. Was a trip getting her to come in hot multiple times on figure 8's. Many of the fish we saw over the weekend were beat up pretty bad as evidence of the recently completed spawn.

Most fish were seen and caught on shallow structure with deep water near by. We took time off each afternoon to take the family rugrats after panfish and bass and did quite well. All in all a great weekend.

Tough weekend of fishing in the Rhinelander Area. Was on the water by 5:00am on Satruday and fished two great lakes in 7 hours of fishing and never saw a fish. Tried just about everything except open water. Then went home to pick up son for our traditional opening day afternoon. Went to a favorite Lake X and couldn’t launch the boat because of low water and on the way to option number two the rain started. My son and father-in-law made the choice to go home rather than be in the boat in the rain. From the sounds of it we made the right choice as the guys I know who fished the entire day didn’t do much better than we did in the morning.

Yesterday I fished from about 10:00am to 4:00pm with my son, on what I would call awesome numbers lake and finally salvaged with weekend with a follow from what had to be a 12 incher. It was for sure a musky so it at least made me feel a little better. The highlight of the day was a 4” crappie my son got on his 6” minnow bait. He laughed so hard that that little fish hit that big bait. It definitely made the day all worth it.

Fun weekend, but the musky just weren’t cooperating.

O-yea, got about a mid 30 inch Dogfish, that very possibly weighed 15-20 pounds. More to follow in separate post.

Hopefully things get better, fishing wise, tonight for league.

Nail a Pig!

spent the day saturday and sunday fishing with worms, minnows and 6 little kids .... the older boys walked a balance beam of a tree and were able to work the downed timber from shore and fill up on crappies with two just over 14"s and the littler guys and i got some walleyes and a few gills below the dam .... monday i went out and swung for the fences on deep, clear water without any success. it was a nice night with the moon reflection off the water and the loons calling reminding me once again of why i do this.

league tonight ... honestly looking forward to the time in the boat and afterward with friends and hope to score but that would be a sidenote to the rest of the process

Took the family out Sat. morning and ended up with enough perch for a fish fry. Had a blast with the girls(daughters 9 & 4 and wife) and so did they.

As a "re-born" musky hunter (about 1 years removed for various reasons) I am happy to report a first legal (35.5") Sunday just after noon. I was pumped up and it was a blast. Just wish the weather was nicer so my 9 year old could have been along.

Good luck to you guys! It's great to be back in the musky ranks....

Had alot of fish moving on saturday!Seamed like big baits in the green weeds worked.Saw a nice tuffy with 3 guys buddled up real well on sunday on the three lakes chain.(Maybe it was Norm)Anyways caught this female 40" that was dropping eggs when i picked her up,and a nice 38"er to back her up.Caught 2 undersized and what seamed like a gazillion snake northerns.

On monday had a mid 40's shake her head at the side of the boat to throw the bait before I could get the net under her and her little brother prolly a 36-37"er to lose me in the weeds.

Thanks to Jerry Podmarsky for taking a picture of me with my fish on the water.Could find a boat one the chain had to drive back 4 lakes to find a boat!!Thanks jerry!!!

Fished the UP on Friday, and then northern Vilas Saturday and Sunday. Put 2 small fish in the boat, lost 3, had multiple strikes with no connection, and lots of follows. Fish were shallow, weed related and chasing small gliders, bucktails, and topwaters. Found water temps from 58 to 64. We fished several smaller, dark water lakes and found most of our action arond the middle of the day. Also got 10-12 small pike, twitching shallow raiders. And what a joy that wind was.

It was the best opener I ever had. Opening day a 52 at 7:30 A.M. and a 42 1/2 at 1:30. The fishing died after the cold front came in.
Caught the 52 trolling coming up on a shallow sandbar. The 42 1/2 came in 9 ft of water throwing a muskie treat.
Fishing by myself, I was lucky to find some guys willing to take my picture. Picture doesn't do the 52 justice, I should of held it different, still better than no picture at all. Both fish swam away great.

Saturday=Had 2 on, lost them both!bLater that day 1 miss, & 1 follow. Tough day to swallow, only need to boat 4 fish to hit 10 for the month of May, times a ticking. It's a marathon not a sprint!
