Hey folks, I painted up a customers Bobbie bait to resemble a Brown Sucker. Hope he likes it.

i know captain one-eye since he lost the one in a battle has to work harder to see both ways so he waggles even more than when he had two healthy eyes ... he doesn't realize that making up for lost peripheral vision by moving his head side to side to look for predators actually gets him smashed even more !!!! .... stupid bait!

After seeing my best buddy Sean Tremblay stick some really good fish on a Bobbie Bait I painted up and custom weighted for him I'm a believer in their effectiveness. I do think that they need some tweeking though before I would say they are a good fishing tool. Not a "good right out of the box bait" IMHO.

could you paint a sauger pattern on an old warhorse and only give him one eye ... and a patch on the other one? it's one of those baits with a personality to me and i guess i'd consider investing in him for all the memories he's given me. he's had the crud kicked out of him and spent a full year with a shark fin (a muskie tooth that stayed stuck in his back) ... too bad i didn't glue it in as it was lost later ....

let me know if it's something you might consider doing snax ... thanks

You've just highlighted the problem with the Bobbie Sled. You can only break a finite number of teeth buried in that soft wood per hookset.

Snax, how do you like to tweek the bobbies? I agree, they seem to need a bit of fooling with to work well. I usually bend the tail around and "T" the hooks. That seems to help with the action some.

First I add weight similar to how I would in one of my gliders but I make the bait sit nose down a little. That helps a lot. Then I tune the tail until the action is where I want it. I like to weight the bait so it rises pretty slowly and has more hang time. Sean really can get a fish going crazy when he works that Bobbie I did up for him...
