Hello All,
I have a Minnkota Power Drive 80. I do allot of night fishing, this environment
is real we with dewy condensation on may occassions.
Does any one else out there have issues with the pad not working either the
L-R, or thrust.
under warrenty I burned through five, and now I'm going through another.
I fish alot at night and I think these pads suck for this?

Thanks
Karl

I can't imagine that dew causes your board to fry. Mine has stood up to a few big rains and wet rides without having problems aside from normal wear and tear.

Went through 4 of them last year... I tore one of the foot pedals apart and it is the design of the foot pedal that is the problem... There is a nylon (I believe is the material) part that wears out. When this part wears out, it will no longer push the fingers down to hit the button on the control module that will turn the foot pedal to the left and right... Minn Kota has aparently fixed this issue with their new model, unfortunatly you can not retrofit the new foot pedal with an existing powder drive model... So if you want to solve the problem you need to go spend another thousand $$ to Minn Kota for their new and improved model... If you choose to keep your current model, keep feeding Minn Kota $75 a pop for foot pedals, I think their design engineering manager needs a new pair of shoes... In the mean time, I personally keep 2 extras in my boat at all time, this does not include the one I am using.....

I have gone through about 2 of these a year for the past few seasons. Every time I have had one fail, I spoke to Minn Kota. They played the warranty timeline game with me until now. Last week I spoke to the service manager at Minn Kota (Mike?) and he says he had not heard of this issue. He overnighted me 3 pedals in return for 2 broken ones at no charge. I told him I needed the extra 2 due to the unreliablilty of his products.

jc,

OK cool not that I wish this on anyone, but it's good to here that I'm not the only
one who is having these issues.

Now......I spoke with a rep last night and here what he said:

1) you take your rig to a lake with sand, some amount of sand or similar
get on the circuit board, it perferrates the board, it then lets water in.
water then fries (eventually) the contact points.

2)how to help, lightly hose down the unit. Be sure to vaccume out the
sand out of the boat ASAP.

3)other option the co-pilot it's about $150. but comes with a two year
warrenty. Better than $420 of foot pedals in the same span.
-i'm trying this one

But I do agree MinnKota needs to re-adress if in three years the cost
can outweight the intial cost. That's my polite version of my thoughts

Thanks
Karl
