Subject: Leech Lake in Oct

Hi, I am going on a Leech Lake trip in Oct. What is the best approach to take during this time period..casting or trolling? Also, which areas of the lake show the most promise. Thanks in advance

All depends on the weather, I know you have heard this many times, but it is hard to predict what Mother Nature is up to. In normal years parts of the lake will turn over in mid to late October. Walker Bay does turnover, you will want to spend time on the breaklines and wind blown shorelines as well. Cisco's also spawn during this time, finding structure or area's that they use can really put some big fish in the boat. Trolling may be a good option at this time. Cover water looking for active fish.

If you have a warm afternoon you can cast the weed lines and rock reefs out on the big lake. The Reel Bottom map company has a new map of Leech on the market. It is so detailed that you have to purchase 2 maps to cover the entire lake. I would suggest getting this map. It has way points on several of the major reefs and other structures. This is a thumb nail sketch. E mail me if I can answer any other questions. [email protected]

Good luck, Murph
