Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Has anyone used the Shimano Talora trolling rods, and if so what are your thoughts? How big of lures have you trolled with them? I'm looking at pulling some big baits with them, but want to know how "indestructable" they really are.

Posts: 2089 | Travis, If they are made using the tc4, they are as close as you can get to indestructible. I've seen one lift a dumpster off the ground before breaking. Good stuff. Steve

Location: Green Bay, WI | I just bought a couple of these at GM in Green Bay the other night Travis--and they sure look good to me. I will check to see whether or not they are TC4 though. I also bought some Daiwa Sealine 47s as well. Sweet reels! TB Edited by tcbetka 5/24/2007 1:51 PM

Location: Green Bay, WI | Forgot to mention that I also bought two Ugly Stick 10 footers...those things are massive! Larry Jones tells me that they are virtually indestructible, so maybe things will work out well. TB

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I guess I am not only looking for something to hold up, but something that will handle Plows, Hookers, Franky Baits, as well as other large hard pulling cranks. I also want a rod under 8' (7' preferred). Something with a heavy buttsection, but with a softer tip. I looked at the Talora at Gndr in Green Bay, but thought maybe the tip was too soft. Then again what the heck do I know about trolling!

Posts: 2089 | Travis, For what you're looking to do, I'd have a custom built on a glass blank. I have a couple 9' ers built on St. Croix E-Glass that are very nice and relatively inexpensive as far a customs go. With a little chop here and there, you'll have your 7'er that will troll EVERYTHING/ANYTHING made. Steve

Location: Green Bay, WI | Steve, Who built them for you...Thorne Bros? They sound nice. And Travis, I know what you are saying about the tips being soft. But for the price I figured you cannot really go wrong. A guy can always get some custom rods made like Steve suggests, *after* you figure out what it is you really want/need. TB
