| We are all well aware of the rising gas prices, but I don't think anything can get me more frustrated than traffic back-ups due to ROAD CONSTRUCTION. I already deal with the traffic in the Chicago area and would like to avoid it during my trips north. I'll be heading up to NW. Wisconsin in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if anybody here has experienced any travel trouble spots. I usually take I-90 to I-94 to Eau Claire then North on 53. Any travel advice would be appreciated. Kdawg |

| I never roadtrip without a CB radio locked on channel 19. You don't have to get a permanent mount deal, just a used radio, mic and a decent magnetic antenna. Truckers will keep you well informed of upcoming road conditions and they'll describe ways to avoid backups. If you do get caught in a backup, you hear how long it takes to get thru.
When I approach a choice between routes, like running either 55 or 57 from Chicago to St. Louis, I ask the truckers for advice and they always know the best option. |

I-90 w/b joint replacement west of Lyndon Station (MP 79). Right now they are on the e/b side - not sure if they'll be doing w/b too or not.
I-94 both directions just south of Osseo. Not sure of the exact mile marker but they are redoing the e/b lanes. There's a crossover with counterdirectional traffic (one lane each direction in the w/b lanes) for about 8 miles or so if I remember right. We were up there last weekend and it flowed through just fine. Holiday traffic or heavy weekend traffic will back that up real easy. Last year was about an hour to and hour and a half to go 12 miles. If you go through at other than prime time it shouldn't be much of a problem.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. I don't know what's south or east of Madison though.
