I have a pair of older Curados and one is troublesome. I am unable to slow the drag system that is designed to manage the spool spin when casting. The round "nut" is as tight as can be yet there is almost no drag on the bait when casting. Birdnest city. Suggestions?

I'm almost afraid to ask this, but have you set your brakes? They're on the opposite side of the handle, you just unscrew the side and look in there, where there will be 6 straight pieces of wire with what looks like plastic hats on them. If the hats are "in" the brakes are on, if they're "out" they're off. Here's an article that has a picture to demonstrate http://pages.infinit.net/fishing/bait101.htm
the third picture down is the one you're looking for.
BTW, the Curado is one awesome baitcaster.

Ranger, there is a little bronze disc inside the cap. Check to see that it isn't missing or worn. There is also a plastic spacer behind the bronze. If either of these are missing or worn, you won't be able to tighten the cap enough to tension the spool.

Rockin SV, thanks for posting that link with the pics. Helps show me exactly what I have to do with two of my reels. I knew it wasn't hard, but I just didn't wanna start digging around in a reel not knowing what I was doing.
Thanks, Jake

Learn to cast without it. Set the brakes. The cast control just holds you back anyhow. Love my Curados, but have them backed all the way off.

Rockin' - Looked at the brakes with headlight in the boat that night, but not close enough. Double checked today to find that only two were "out". Reset to have 4 of the 6 out, per instructions above, and I'm back in business.

Um, I think the instructions suggest that "out" is "on" and "in" is "off".

Next problem - now I'm getting a clicking/grinding feel when retrieving just a big Johnson Spoon. Dang. These two reels are like 8 years old, with many many many hours on both. I've caught a lot of bass throwing spinnerbaits at night with those two reels. Use to hit the water at dusk and when the bass were really on, I might boat 30 bass with 4-6 being over 18". Fun to boat 30 bass in one night. On the other hand, it's a little embarrasing to be loading the boat out at 7:00am on Sunday morn with a huge beer buzz going. I told guys at the landing that I was a devout member of the local clergy and at midnight Jesus had turned my jug of coffee into a 12 pack of Budweiser and being of the faithful I had little choice but to follow the calling.
