I am booked for 2 weeks on LOTW Sabaskong Bay / Stevens Bay area last week of Sept, first week of October. The party consists of 3 Brits from the UK all experienced Pike Anglers but none of us have ever fished for Muskie.

We have too many lures and not enough weight allowance to bring them all.

Any thoughts on what are 'must have' lures for us? Or tips on fishing there at that time of year.

We will appreciate any help.

Location: In the slop!
BBB, I can fish that time frame with just three baits.
1) 9" unweighted Sledge
2) 10" Jake
3) 10" Believer
If the fish are on the shallow rocks, the sledge will get them. If they are a little deeper, the jake will get to them. Any one of the three can be trolled, (which might be your best option then depending on the weather). If you find fish in the weeds, (a good possibility) the believer will grind right through.
I have had 0 success with hair baits that time of year and topwater seems to only produce pike. Jerkbaits in general are good that time of year. The sledge just stands up to the pounding in the rocks the best for me.

Many thanks for the reply, we use a lot of lures from the US but have one or two homemade jerks that might just get some interest.

Don't own many hair baits as no muskie in the UK and have found them poor for our UK Pike.

My idea would be pretty much identical, but the names are my personal preferences. I'd swap the sledge for a 10" Suick because I can get it to do a little more, but they both accomplish the same task. I like the Believer and Jake, but I spend a lot more time at that period throwing and twitching DD's and DDD's from ERC. Bring along a couple spinnerbaits to hedge your bets and you should be good to go. Honestly with the exception of a topraider these are pretty much the only baits I throw there all season. Ok so I might spend a few hours over a week's time throwing something else to entertain minor periods of boredom, but those baits used effectively will cover anything you might encounter. That being said the real idea of my post is to point out the idea of what each of these baits can do. Bring a dive-rise jerkbait that your comfortable with and can work effectively, a large crank that you can troll cast or twitch, the couple blade baits, and whatever else you fancy.
