Musky, The written Word. by Al Sozcka Its a book on muskie books. Very insightful written by an "old salty veteran" and a great guy. hope this helps.

Posts: 357 Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | I will have to agree with AWH. "Muskies on the Shield" is about the best book out there that I have read. It deals with different kinds of water (clear/stained), fish movement, and how to "attack" these areas. After I read it the first time, I went back through it and tore it apart with my highlighters. It is now referred to as "The Muskie Bible". Pick it up, you won't be sorry.

Best book I ever read for everyday fishing keep it by the bed during the season Edited by happy hooker 4/25/2007 5:20 AM

I thought a good book was the one written by Steve Heiting about all the top guides in Vilas County. He took one of the BEST guides from each period of time during the year, (guides who were real successful at topwaters, bucktails, livebait, etc.) and wrote a chapter on each. As well, Rizzo's book was great too...not to mention Pearson's book about the shield! A timeless book which was incredible and a fun read, was "Time on the Water" by Bill Gardner. True story, talks about different lakes and presentations, but NOT instructional!

When I read it I was amazed that he covered virtually everything it had taken me 50 years of muskie fishing to learn. It is the one book on muskies that everyone should have as their primer.

Posts: 199 Location: Anchorage | Muskies on the Shield seems to be the popular choice and is a worthwhile read. However, I think Muskies Maina Style gives a little more of a complete look at muskies in general. It's a bigger book and discusses many different fishing situations as well as weather, triggering techniques, releasing, etc. P.S. Both really should be read.

I've never fished the Canadian Shield and still took a lot of valuable information from the book. The majority of the information he provides can really be translated to anywhere you might fish. Muskies on the Shield is the greatest musky book ever written. You don't have to fish the shield to "get it". Trust me on this. Read it about 3 times and you will never THINK about musky fishing the same way.....
