Which spot lights are you all using for night fishing, and early morning? My POS spotlight took a dump on me and I'm looking for one that's gonna be worth while.

Are the cordless ones better than the ones that you need to plug in, or does it really matter. I don't care either way, just want a good one.

Thanks!

I prefer the ones with rechargable batteries, cords suck. I have a million candle power one from Menards. It has worked fine for me.

I have had both. However, I have favored the ones with the cord. The cordless ones that I have owned, they didn't last long for battery life. That was the downfall I had against them.

TJ, that's what my thinking is as well. I want something that I can have on for long periods of time, so when I set it down and forget it's hot, I burn a hole in my carpet.

Which brands are out there with chords that you all recommend?

that one I put a link for has 25 min. of run time on one charge. do you need more than that.
probably not.
13 bucks you can't go wrong!

i just bought a 5 million candlepower spotlight with about an 8 inch face/beam, Guide Series (store brand) from Gander Mountain.
it has both a rechargeable battery, and a cord that you can plug into a cigarette lighter power source (ie., 12V DC that's readily available in a boat.)
best of both worlds for $29.99

not that i have this urge to carry lots of light in my boat this year or anything...

I've got one similar to what Lambeau described, but I got mine from Sportsman's Warehouse. Along with a rechargeable battery, it came with both 12V cigarette lighter and 110V adapters.

Joel, mount one of those WWII air raid lights on the front of your boat and use it like the Bat Signal. Shine a huge musky silhouette in the clouds every time you catch a fish at night.

BBQ first, then fishing.

Joel,

I really don't know if there is any particular one that is better or not. I think it ultimately comes down to how well you take care of it. I have one I have had for like 7 years, it's working fine for me. The way that I have broke the couple that I have is not taking care of them and kinda I guess you could say throwing them around in the truck or just letting them roam free where they take a beating and that's where or how they get beat up. You said this is going to be for the boat right? The one that I have taken a liking to and from seeing and using on a friends rig was the Marine one that is made by RAM Mounts. This is an all weather light, 70,000 candlepower, I know it's not 5 million but I have personally never needed that kind of power for my rig. I'm usually using mine for finding the launches and or docks where I tie up at night. This light seems to do the job very well, not to mention it's on a ram mount so if you don't want to hold it, or it also comes with a nice handle so that you can pop it off the ram mount and do what you gotta do with it. Just my suggestion. I personally wouldn't want to have to stow a gigantic spotlight like a 5 million power one for how little I use it.

Oh, by the way, this is one you have to plug in, no battery one for me. Like somone else mentioned, a battery one lasts from anywhere from 25-45 minutes if your lucky. But the biggest thing I have against them, every time I needed it, the dang battery seemed to be dead or close to dead. Doesn't do me any good to be carrying a light if it isn't powered.

TJ makes a couple of good points worth highlighting, and they apply to just about any piece of gear or equipment:
- take care of it if you expect it to keep working; a little maintenance goes a long way
- get the tool that matches your need, whether it's your boat or your reel or spotlights

My God lambeau, that is some clean carpet. LOL

Thanks guys. Lambeau, is the cord that comes with that just a recharging cord, or is it a functioning cord for power? My last light had the 12v adapter, but you couldn't turn it on when it was plugged in. (that's how the light met its demise). If it is a power cord, I'm there.

TJ, I need the 5 million candle power for shining chinook in 100 feet of water on Lake Michigan at night. Sight fishing with glo worms. Actually, it's a good thing to have for scouting at night too. That's why I can't use a rechargable light. Need it to run for several hours if needed.

actually it comes with two cords, one for charging, and one for direct power.
you can see the two different plugs just in front of the "Guide Series" label.

Not to shabby of a spotlight you have there Lambeau! Now if I only had a reason for one that big, then I think I know which one I would buy! That's pretty cool they offer both cordless and the 12v cord to run off the battery.

I use a 1M power with a cord that runs to a small rechargable 12V battery. The whole thing is housed in it's own little soft-side 12-pack cooler with a shoulder strap. The light wears down that small battery in about an hour and a half.

I love shining the shallows and breaks in the wee hours. And we use it when driving golf balls at night.

I use a cordless 1 million CP light. I bought a pretty cheap one as I'm sure one of these days it will end up in the drink. I have a smaller much less powerful one for a back-up.

I used to use one that was rechargeable and came with a cord. I found myself using the cord most often, then having to lug the weight of the battery around all the time. Wife hated holding the heavy thing up while navigating in front. Now I just use a lightweight corded model. Has worked best for me, and wifie is happy(the key).
