| Seems more and more lakes I fish have this weed present.
Any ideas on how to fish this weed will be appreciated.

| Fish the edges. Stay tight to them. Fish the edges closest to deeper water. The one thing that really helps is using the sunlight to your advantage. As long as you can see the weeds, it's easy to fish the edges. Get some glare or fish it from the wrong direction and you'll be picking off weeds on every cast.
I love fishing jigs along milfoil lines. Short accurate casts along the edge will put your lure right where the fish like it.
Think edges, because you can't fish over it.
Also transition areas where the milfoil ends and other weeds begin are good spots. A transition from milfoil to cabbage is a good spot.
Milfoil sucks because it gets chopped up by every prop on the lake and causes a floating mess. Vast, thick areas are a pain for boating and are unfishable. Other than that, it's a great place for panfish and baitfish to hide out. All sorts of gamefish patrol the edges looking for snacks.

| Fish in milfoil use the pockets and the tight edges to ambush.
The pockets can be picked by twiching Slammers, Squirrly burts, Suicks or doing drop down change ups with Undertakers.
The Milfoil edge is very neat, often you have an overhanging edge..kinda like a cut bank on a stream. Muskie hold very tight to milfoil edges and casting..two or three feet off can make or break a day. Boat control is very important when you work down these edges. I run my boat right down the edge casting parallel to the edge. I run a many styles of cranks, like Slammer Deep divers, Bagleys, and Depth Raiders. The trick is pick it, dont crank it. Work the crank bait in an out of the small deep pockets along the edge. Run bucktails low and parallel to the edge.

| Cast and Curse, that's how I do it. Jason and Beav said it best, hit the pockets and edges and be prepared to get in all over your boat. |

| Todd made a good point....
The trick to getting Milfoil out of the carpet is. Let it dry, then vaccuum. Try to shake your weeds off over the side of the boat as much as possible.
The stuff is nasty, but better then sand.[;)] |

| I agree with the guys above. One other good bait is a high riding, single hook, spinner bait. Use it around those pockets and edges, let it helicopter down where possible. Good luck getting the better fish out of the mess, many get off before you can get them out. It can be frustrating fishing, but the fish are there.
I don't do it and don't like to do it, but I have seen folks succeed with ripping jeck baits through this stuff. Man, it is a LOT of work and your picking weeds all day, but it can get you bit.[:knockout:] |

| Something else I tried last year and it should work well as I had very few weed fowling is running a bucktail, like a wisher weedless behind a planer board. You can run them about 2mph pretty high in the water. |

| Try this: put you boat in the thick $hit and cast out into deep water. Any bait will work here. One note, make sure your about 10' into it otherwise you may be spooking fish if your too close to the edge.

| Hi,
I like to a heavy weedless jig and creature along the edges and will flip it it pockets like a bass fisherman does. The key when fishing the jig here is heavy and weedless. The bait can be worked under the thick top slop. It still can get your anger up at the weeds but it sure is productive.
