I have heard people state that if you come hear and show off lures and run to ebay it is looked down apon. I have done that also with 2 baits. I feel funny about that also.
I have heard people state that it would be nice to offer the lures to the members on the buy/sell forum. I did sell some that way in the last couple of weeks on there. Is that viewed in a better light?
I do have a wesite in progress but I am a bit scared about the bigger commitment over the summer months and keeping it up and running while not building during the off months.
Any suggestions?

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Sell where you want to sell. Perhaps sell some on here, and some on Ebay.
If you are worried about keeping up with production you could always do what Joe Peterson (Trueglide Lures) does. He makes limited production runs, and has an email list of people that gets notified when he has some available. To get on the email list you sign up for it on his website. |

Location: Minnesota | I sell on a website and eBay. Tried to sell a few odd ones here on th eBuy Sell forum but the moderators told me I was a business and was not allowed to sell here on MuskiesFirst. LOL I make my stuff in my garage and basement. What a factory  As for my website, I don't get a lot of traffic there compared to eBay but, my website average slaes are much better than eBay part due to no eBay fees that I have to pay only PayPal fees there and a small $10/year Go Daddy charge for the .com site.
At the end of the day, I sell anyplace I can as long as I make enough $/hours to make it worth my time to make extra baits above and beyond the ones I want for myself. eBay has been good and bad to me. You just need to know what your doing on eBay due to the high fees of eBay and PayPal.
JMO, and hope that little bit helps.

Location: Minnesota | Yep. I also bought a program for $50 called SiteSpinner V2. It is about like making a PowerPoint presentation. A little more in depth but the program comes with a great in=program help/instruction manual. Easy to sell from too. PayPal has a spot where you can build a "Add To Cart" button in about 2 minutes and from there you just change the name of the item and the price in the code.

Location: Wisconsin | I use Godaddy and then use zen-cart along with Paypal. Zen cart is free, takes a little know how to get up and running, but is for the most part really user friendly. You can also use the paypal which has buttons for carts as well. I would avoid ebay all together because of the fees. You are paying for the listing fee one, the selling end price fee, then a paypal fee. The traffic issue is a problem, but if you get the word out, it comes with time. Location: Burton, Ohio | Thanks everyone, I should go ahead and finish the website. I was scanning many of the other luremakers sights. I found one that had a "closed till next season" sign up. I like that idea. Make the lures in the winter. keep the site up with a sign like that or along that lines. Looks like the cost is minimal to keep it linked.
I can see that it is more than making a pretty lure. People want to make sure they run as good as they look. I would do the same.
The paperwork and tax thing is alot of work also. Lots of forms and numbers. My wife has a accounting degree and is helping me with that side of things. Grunt thanks for the thread and links on that.
2 more inches of snow lastnight. I just want some 50 degree weather here! LOL

| Nothing wrong with Ebay!
Either the buyer has a great deal or in several cases the seller (lurebuilder) has a great deal.
Either way...it is fun, word gets around about your baits (not every fisherman in the world looks at M1 lol) and you also get an idea as a lurebuilder what your lures are worth to the public.
But DO offer them on M1 to.

Between taxes, eBay fees and PayPal fees each one of my baits has an extra $5-$7 tacked on in cost. Almost doubles my COGS. Not bitching about it becasue I know it is the cost of doing business. Just was a surprise to me during my first few sales on eBay... LOL at myself! They nickle and dime you to DEATH on that website. And we wonder how eBay turned a billion $$$$ a few years back for being JUST an auction site! Smart guys there! |

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan | yeah ebay is good for people just selling an old bait here and there because the fees stay pretty low, but if it is your business and you have multiple auctions going on everyday it will get a little expensive. Grunt, thanks for the tips on godaddy; i decided to make a site too. Nothing is for sale on it yet, but just trying to get my name and lures out there. |
