Posts: 223 Location: minneapolis | Being the boat slut that I am- I was feeling a bit of anxiety over the other post thinking I may have been guilty of some of the annoying habits listed. I know for sure I'm guilty of showing up with a hangover- but I also think my gracious boat hosts will testify my hangover calms me down from my usual state without affecting my ability to pound the water all day ! The point is- I am the most grateful muskie boat slut around as I have been invited to fish with The Best Muskie Dudes Around! They have the Best fishing partner habits I could ever wish for- They teach me techniques and educate me regarding new waters- They position me in the boat for bait presentation success- They are incredibly generous- They are humble and gracious- They are funny and enjoyable to be around-- on and off the water- I'm the luckiest boat slut on water when it comes to muskie men ! What are some of the qualities you appreciate in your partners?

If they offer to run the trolling motor during the day, particularly if it is windy. Offer to help put the boat on the trailer. It is a big help if they canback up a trailer. They pack light. I don't mind loaning another muskie fisherman lures, leaders or anything he needs. Beats falling over gear boxes all day.

- doesn't mind when i use baits that "shouldn't work" on his lake - works hard unfreezing the trolling motor allowing me to catch fish instead - knows that i view gear as gear, and it's ok if some of it gets broken, but sends a replacement to me in the mail the next week anyway - willing to spend an entire day fishing without making a single cast - willing to hand off his sucker rod to someone else when the alarm goes off, even though it would have been his only fish of the year - hook set and "fish on!" every time his lure hits a snag - throws my keys in the lake, occasionally falls in the water, and pees on the cabin floor at 3am; but does it all in an inimitably entertaining way - knows how to get the cowling off the motor. or not. but most of all: - laughs alot and makes me laugh alot

Posts: 8777 | - gets as excited when I catch a fish as when he catches a fish - teamwork mentality - ability to laugh once in a while. Let's face it, sometimes a nasty backlash is just downright FUNNY. - not get mad when I say "nice cast" after that nasty backlash - takes fishing seriously, but not so much as to forget it's FUN. - willing to have a celebratory beer after a fish, but not out there to get drunk and be stupid - doesn't talk too much, but willing to have a conversation - fun to be around Last one is really what its all about -- if you aren't having fun, what is the point? A lot of my best fishing memories were on fishless days.

Posts: 110 Location: Albertville, Minnesota | Remembering that its fishing, and a day on the water is better than a day at work. But I will say the guys that go into the store while I'm filling up the tank(s) and ultimately pick up the tab or slip a 10 or 20 in my cup holder of the truck for gas.....Without asking. Chris

"They position me in the boat for bait presentation success" That must be the key to it.

you don't ask them to but they bring cold beer on ICE and some snacky treats... they know how to back a trailer in correctly, and offer to dump the boat and back in the truck when you are done fishing!

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | gotta agree that loading and unloading is the best thing you could have in a boat partner .... somebody who knows what they are doing in that regard are definitely appreciated.

Posts: 880 Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Someone who will grab the keys at the launch and back the trailer in without ever having to worry. Someone who reminds you often that fishing is better than work. And will turn on the bilge before you sink. And when you spill your cocktail because you forgot to tighten the cover will pour half of his in your mug. And will fix you backlash because you forgot your glasses in the truck at the launch. Is able to net a fish without knocking the lure out of it's mouth. Brings enough bloodymary fixens for a good brunch. Remembers that you at the bar after the day of hard fishing. I could go on a while more..... Bruce

The specific habits might be different, but that each partner does what they can to pull their weight. Whether that's bringing the food, or just knowing what to do when the time is right to help put fish in the boat is all dependent on the trip or day. Motivated.

Right on, Ranger. Attitude is everything, whether you're the guest or the host. Some of the responses on these two threads make me think I could never fish with some people, yet I've never had a real problem.

Location: Northern Illinois | A good boat partner consists of a guy!, that doesnt get on your nerves, throws a drink at you after every fish in the boat, doesnt mess up the net, and is willing to fish refer bay in the morning.

1) willing to choose complimentary baits to work together to identify patterns. (nothing worse than the guy who will only do his own thing - might as well fish alone!) 2) knows what they are doing so I'm not having to help too much (ie not constantly hanging baits in rocks, weeds, trees, etc.) 3) doesn't talk too much 4) will rotate positions in the front of the boat 5) will fish all day without any breaks
