Starting to tie my own leaders and was wondering what are good knots for tying fluorocarbon to swivels and stay-lok snaps?

I use the advanced clinch knot and palomar knot. Most of my fishing is for bass though and this is a musky site, so I don't know. Maybe you guys have special knots for musky. These knots have held well for me, especially the palomar knot.

I would think the same knots you use on mono. will work fine.

Some knots used on mono are tough to use on heavy fluorocarbon above 80#. I use the perfection loop.

Search the threads to find Extreme Mike's method. I copied him and have never had a flouro leader fail. (80# Climax)

The best knot for heavy flourocarbon leaders is a properly executed crimp. I just started making my own fluorocarbon leaders. I decided to go with 100 lb. Fluorocarbon, double barrel crimps, 150 lb. ball bearing swivels and snaps appropriate to the lure used.

Here is a link to a tutorial on making proper crimps. I believe that many people who complain about crimp failures are doing the crimps improperly. I know I made the classic mistake shown in the tutorial when I made my first crimp. Look at the tutorial...it might just help a lot.

Perfection Loop knot......I use 130-150# leaders....even if this knot doesn't have the strongest rating (who cares with this lb test?!), it lies straight and doesn't slip.

I have also done the crimping as per the leadertec site. No failures yet after 3 years...

That site had the best tutorial I found for making good leaders. The only thing I would like to add to mine would be some sort of small tubing over the loop just for a little more security...

Homer Rhodes loop knot - it's a jam knot. Tie an overhand knot (leave a long tag) and then run the tag back through the first overhand knot to form the loop. Finish by tying an overhand knot around the line again. Should be able to find instructions on-line with a search. I use it for 50lb. fluoro tippets for musky fly leaders.
