Posts: 73 Location: Indiana | Hey Guys. Long time reader, first time poster. I finally got around to becoming a member of this site. Anyways, on to the question... I "thought" I was following all the steps on the anchor post above regarding the maintenance of the newer Abu Garcia Reels. I just kinda ran into one issue and figured you guys would be able to help me trouble shoot this. I believe it has to do with the drag assembly. After I completed reassembling the reel (with no parts left over for the record), I tested it out. The problem is that when I stop reeling, the spool keeps spinning. Where am I going wrong with this? The parts are all there...they should be in the right order, and they're in the proper place. I've taken the reel apart before and never ran into this. The only difference this time was that I messed with the drag assembly. Any tips to help me out? I gotta go fishing next weekend ![]() THANKS!! Halfpint

Posts: 1270 | I assume that the reel makes a clicking sound when the spool continues to spin - correct? If so you did nothing wrong. This is a safety defice to keep the pinion gear from wearing out. It will not happen when you are fishing with it. All Abu's do this, some just easier than others.

Posts: 73 Location: Indiana | Yes Sir! It does make a clicking sound. I totally forgot to put that in there. Thanks reelman. I'm impressed. I think I'm gonna strap some weight on it and cast it down the street for a few minutes to test it out. Seriously, that reel advice topic is pretty awesome. I'm think I'm pretty comfortable taking the Abu reels apart now and remembering how to put them together. I'm hoping that I can start replacing parts instead of reels from now on. Of course, I'm probably gonna have to ask some more questions here and there.

Posts: 1270 | If the noise really bothers you, which like I said you will not have a problem with or hear, in actual use you could take the reel apart and increase the tension on the spring arms of the position holder. These are the 2 small steel "arms" that put preasure on the pinion holder, just bend them down a little bit. This may make the release button a little harder to push in though.

Posts: 73 Location: Indiana | I think I'll avoid changing things. I cleaned the other 6601C4 I have and everything went smoothly on that one as well. Is there a good site to order replacement parts online for these reels? I should probably replace the clutch arms in both of the reels. And the threads on the end of the drive shaft for one reel are stripped, so I should replace that. The nut that attaches the handle doesn't tighten down as well as it should. The good news is the gears are in good shape throughout. Thanks for the help!!!! Halfpint
