| A friend of mine just bought a new boat and is having a marine radio installed for safety issue's which bring's me to this question -- do most of you guys run marine radio's in your boats or is this overkill? -- His reason is the bigger lake's like mille's or leech and turtle flowage as example's of why he's doing it which has me thinking about doing it . |

Location: Racine, Wi | I love having a marine radio. Not only does it give you the safety advantage of being able to contact help in an emergency, but it also gives you a way to stay in touch with others on the water. Sometimes to relay info about a bite, other times to help pass time while trolling.
If you are running bigger water, make sure to get a suitable anntenae to cover the water you are on. Don't skimp here as that is the biggest contact point in the system. Without a good anntenae, it won't do you any good to have the marine radio. |

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I got one, because Winnebago is a big body of water (in Wisconsin, anyway). Besides what Joel said, you get NWS weather reports across several different channels. |
