Subject: winnebago chain opener

Looked in the fishing regs for the opener for the winnebago chain and didnt see when. Does it still open as the southern zone. I know we voted on it last year at the dnr spring hearings and it passed to have it open later but didnt see anything about it in the regs.
Last year we fished it opening (southern) weekend and caught a small one at 33" but still bent the pole. Would like to do the same this year but dont want to do something elligal.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Now it all starts to make more sense. Seen the little lake was opening May 26th. Called the dnr but got sick of waiting on hold for 10 minutes.
Thanks Paul

Actually since the subject got brought up,I talked to a guy wed night thats a huge walleye angler and he told me of a story of a natural 56"er that was caught by the HWY 41 bridge a few years ago. Also saw pictures of a 54"er caught up near winneconnie in the river 2 years ago on a walleye bait.Theres always been some big fish in there but theres such a low population for the size of the water. With the new stocking there should be fish in the 36-40" range in there now but then again with only a few thousand stocked each year low density. If the walleyes arent back in the lake at opener go fish the rivers, the muskys usually follow the walleye run and make there way back to the lakes as the walleye return.

From what I understand, from the Dam in Neenah, all the way to the mouth in Green Bay (including Little Butt) is all in in the Northern Zone now.

Thanks muskynightmare that is what I wanted to know and clears up what I read in the regs.
MuskieE I know the old hotspots map made a comment about a 40lber caught from by the 41 bridge. But the winneconie one I havent heard about. It makes sense though. Had a friend that used to fish around there and said he had more than one bite off. Later in the season though.
I used to fish it for walleyes and want to change gears and start to relearn it for the toothy critters. Not much pressure YET and lots of water means I can find spots and fish them alone. You should of seen the looks we got last year when we pulled out the big baits. ;-))
