Okay---who has owned boats each way?

Need some advise as I'll be buying soon. Will go on a 619.

I have a 4" graph on the console.

Mosty I cast as I live in WI.

Any thoughts would be appreciated...I've read of the advantages of tighter turns with a tiller and increased ability to precisely present the bait as a result.

I've also heard the comfort and safety of the console steering is greater than that advantage.....

Thanks,
Shep

Have the best of both worlds. Get the tiller version. Merc Prokicker, or the Yamaha T8, if you prefer. Both have power tilt. Avoid the $600 Panther lift. Then add a Trollmaster Pro, and the Golden Eye steering rod kit.

With this setup, you can use the kicker as a tiller for tight contour trolling, or steer from the console, and control your speed as well.

I don't like the factory remotes for speed control. Not adjustable enough for me.

I've run both. I like the steering wheel. I'm more comfortable, the turning spped is just fine, and the motor starts runs with a set of controls just like my 150.

Console is much better IMO. I have a 4 hp kicker (tiller) and hate that when i take my hand off the stick the motor turns. And its a long reach.

You can still steer from the console my way. There is an adjustment on the tiller versions of the ProKicker to prevent the motor from turning when you let go of it. It's called a copilot, believe it or not.

The Trollmaster is one of the best additions to my trolling equipment. Very precise throttle control. Precision you cannot get with the remote controls.

Thanks for the advice, Shep...just placed my order today!!!! Rigging up a Tiller Yamaha T-8 with a connecter bar for console steering and a dial remote throttle control as well as a console trim for when I see a sandbar fast approaching on my favorite flowages!!!

I'm pumped to get it in the water....new toys....gotta love 'em!

Cowboy, That sounds a lot like the set up I am having put on my boat right now, hopefully I will be able to pick it up tommorrow. I have a key and trim switch by my counsole and the T8 connected to my big motor with a rod. This way I do not have a tiller arm in the way all the time.
