Subject: Optimax 90hp

I have a 2006 90hp opti on my 1700 Tuffy. I went to change the lower unit oil to get ready for the new season and the lube came out streaky. I this water? The boat hasn't been fired up since early December. I always thought that if water sat in the lower unit that long that if any water was in there that it would come out first. Even now that it is almost all out, the lube is still streaked. Do they add something to the lower unit on new motors to help with the break in process? I thought it was water at first, but since it is still coming out the same way I wondered if it was an additive. Any help would be appreciated.

If it's been sitting a while, the water will separate, and because it is heavier than oil, it will come out first. You are all right. Drain it out good, and put in new. Button it up, and check at midsummer.

You have a great boat and motor!
